Sad, Sick, or just plain Stupid?

I just shook my head when I read today's newspaper. The original story contained some terms used in an objectionable manner. Since then it's been cleaned up a bit, and most versions now make it plain he isn't transgendered. But read it for yourself:

The forgotten victims of Irish double standards.

Thousands of women and girls were incarcerated in Magdalene laundries and the Irish government seems unwilling to apologise and compensate the remaining surviving victims. Given the recent scandals of the scale of child abuse there, this is yet another except it concerns only women and girls--which might explain why nothing is being done to compensate them.

Maine legislature rejects bathroom bill

UPDATE: 11:29 AM ET:

The Maine Senate has just joined the House in rejecting a bill that would have repealed protections for transgender people under the Maine Human Rights Act. LD 1096 would have allowed restaurants and schools to adopt their own policies for restroom use and stripped away the ability of transgender people to file discrimination lawsuits if they were denied access to a rest room that did not correspond with their biological sex.

Thanks everyone

I would like to thank everyone for the comments made for "Five Foot Two".
When I wrote this story I never imagined it would take off like it has.
I`ve received lots of personal messages form readers who have enjoyed this story.

I know I`ll never be able to write stories of the calibre of the majority of writers on BC especially Angel.

I would like to express special appreciation to Stanman63 and Jonelle for the editing they have done for me and advice they have given me.

Unhappy man's suicide from Sissy Boy experiments at UCLA?

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/07/sissy.boy.experiment/index....

This is an account of the effects of experiments from some years ago to try to be keep a feminine boy from becoming gay. It was carried out at UCLA, and this person was not the only one. He did, however, kill himself at 38, a very unhappy man who always felt he was "broken" after the "therapy" and the recommended re-inforcement on a reward and punishment system through physical abuse by the parents. Note that this is just part of the story on CNN tonight.

got hurt last night at work

Well, I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, as I managed to hurt myself at work last night. At about 530, I pulled my groin muscle, and after trying to keep going for a few minutes, realized I was in far too much pain, and called out for help. The irony of hurting in the part of my anatomy I most wish didn't exist is not lost on me, but such is life. The good news is, I have a couple of days off to rest, and hope for a recovery. Pray for me, if you are so inclined.

A Matter Of Opinion

Alright, so here's the sitch.

I have the next part of PFH:TSS finished, with part 6 started. I also have the next issue of Switcheroo finished, with the next one about halfway done.

I was planning on waiting until I had a backlog of a part or two extra each before posting any more, but I want to know what people think. Should I post them now, or wait until I've got a buffer before doing so?

I see I have 30,000 of them there kudos

Not entirely sure what that means other than thirty thousand fingers hit the button on the end of my postings. Okay, so that's just a week's postings from me - I'm only joking, Erin, it's actually two weeks :)

Anyway, I presume one or two have enjoyed my contributions and said so: for which many thanks. Thanks also to Erin and her team for their continued indulgence of my verbal diarrhoea. Sometimes it is hard to give up and hour or two every night to post my ramblings and I do like to write other suff as well.

This story takes place right as Jenny has gender reassignment surgery, not the norm for a four year old child. The community responds, some accepting what has happened and others not. See how Jenny grows more comfortable with herself and her place in the world. But, when tragedy strikes, how will the fragile little girl respond? In a world where nothing is certain, can love truly conquer all.

D-Day

Today is the anniversary of D-Day. The cross channel invasion that freed Europe and led to the down fall of Nazi Germany.

I am not sure if there are any veterans of D-Day or even World War II on this site. If so, thank you for your service.

I know that there are a few who lived during the War, and many including myself who are children of World War II veterans. My father landed on Utah Beach during the first wave. He seldom spoke of the evebts, the memeory was too traumatic.

We should never forget the sacrifice they made.

The kindness of strangers - part 1

Sadly this isn't the title of a new Nick B story, though I'm not entirely sure it won't be.

No, this is a lesson well learnt in France on our recent visit, but since I've only just got back and have suffered toothache for the last three days, I'll have to put off telling you all about it until tomorrow or possibly Wednesday providing my dentist doesn't screw things up again...

Sarah Carerra - 2.39 - Riding in Style

sc2.jpg We were driving up a fairly busy street when I first got a glimpse of it. I noticed a small group of people congregating around a chain-link fence; they were pointing in at a parking lot while taking pictures.
A moment later it came into view.

woman's fashions

I was watching tv, and there is going to be a new series called "Pan-Am" based in the late 60s/early 70s and about a group of stewardesses. It occurred to me how much more FEMININE the fashions seemed to be then. Now, dresses and skirts are rare on women. In one way, that's a pity, because although I appreciate the freedoms women have now that they didn't have then, I wish we could have kept some of the pretty looks ...

Thanks to Lilith Langtree for all her help editing and improving this work. This story wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it is now without her help!

Firefly: Changing Course | Part 1: The First Mate

This is a fan fiction set in the Firefly/Serenity universe created by Joss Whedon. It takes place after the events in the television series and the companion motion picture that followed, and is also the first part of a sequel to Firefly: Double Booked, which was in turn a sequel to Firefly: Connecting Flight. This means it has SPOILERS, folks, and major ones at that. So please don't read this unless you get the chance to see the series and the movie -- and read my first two Firefly stories.

In the first part of FIREFLY: CHANGING COURSE, Wash thinks about where she came from and what she's going to do now, and gets advice from an unexpected source.

I just need a shoulder to cry on.

So, I just need to vent, A LOT !

So here we are, moving on Monday. Last night the girls both graduated college and I am happy for them. So, today Hindi took her family and went to see Niagara Falls, that monument to the arrogance of Man. Alexa came in with her Mum and Dad and BF and began packing her things. I was alone at the house until they showed up and enjoyed the quiet.

got a couple of nice compliments at work last night

Well, last night I got a couple of nice compliments at work last night. First, the night supervisor passed on a compliment from the day staff, saying they were impressed with how much freight I had been able to work into the department. Then in the morning, the day supervisor repeated that compliment, and then did something even more impressive. She was talking about my second shift where they made a mistake and put me in the wrong department, and she said ".... and I'm asking them where was SHE, SHE is mine, I need HER in my department."

We just had another new addition to our family. I never thought I'd have children, let alone grandchildren, and now I have great grandchildren. Go figure. Though the father of my great grandchildren got started a bit early (I won't be sixty till later this year) I discover that in spite of the difficulties in my life I have been truly blessed.

Character Descriptions? How About Pictures?

So. Switcheroo and related characters.

I know some people have been less than happy with how little description I've actually given most of them in the story. First of all, I apologize for that.

However, to help with things, I have a little bonus for you!

Here are a handful of pictures of the Switcheroo cast I've drawn over the last few days. I'll add more posts like this as I get more characters done.

Keep in mind I'm not what you'd call the greatest artist, so bear with me on these:

Virgil Hawkins is just an average Detroit teenager trying to survive the urban jungle. But survival's not always easy. The gang-bangers want his commitment or his hide, his best friend likes dressing as a girl, and his electric personality is going nowhere. Toss in a gang fight and a mutagenic gas cloud and folks in Detroit are gonna be in for a shock. A Static Shock!

My thanks go to EnemyofFun for putting up with my s...l...o...w writing pace (and the loan of a couple characters), Solenthas for giving me awesome words to put in my villain's mouth, Lynceus for an important cameo and Lilith for sheer awesomeness.

A Sweets Life-Chapter 6

A Sweets Life-Chapter 6

Just a quiet chapter, this time.

Mrs. Jackson had decided to bring Candy home, so that she could discuss the problems with Candy’s mother. Jenna was not pleased. In fact, she was explosively emotional, perhaps even murderous. Diane Jackson bore the brunt of her anger, sitting quietly in a chair with a resolute lack of emotion. When Jenna stopped to actually breathe for a few minutes, Diane looked her in the eye.

Hilltopper

CHAPTER 10

It had been 3 days since we had left Prowhiness. Neither Jonnie nor the aliens had made contact with us. I was now officially worried sick. When Karen came into the galley for breakfast, I confronted her.

“We have got to go back to Prowhiness. I feel that Jonnie’s in trouble.”

Progress!!!

In the last twenty-four hours I have managed two pages of "Princess For Hire" and three pages of "Switcheroo," giving me a total of... three pages of "Princess for Hire" and three pages of "Switcheroo" ready for the next postings! Almost there!

Seriously, though. I'll try to have the next part of each story out by the middle of next week. In the words of the great Ellen Hayes, I am finally entering a period of not-suck that means my writing is progressing again.

Who'da thunk rereading your own stuff would help?

Anyhow, I'm off to write!

Billy was tired of doing all the hard chores during the hot summer months while his sisters seemed to get away with doing nothing at all. He was also tired of hearing the reason he had to sweat and toil was that he was a boy, whereas his sisters were girls. His dad was also tired; tired of hearing "I wish I was a girl," anytime that he asked his son to do anything he didn't want to do. See how a seemingly innocent punishment backfires and opens up secrets from the past, because there ain't no cure for...
