Recent Movie

Ok so I'm not sure if this has been posted here or not and it appears this movie was released in a limited capacity already but I had to share it. Its called Every Day, its based on a best selling novel by David Levithan, about a person named "A" who wakes up every day in a different body, one of which leads him to a girl whom he falls in love with. The trailer speaks for itself I guess but it looks really good. I'm gonna look for the book and I'll definitely look for the movie when it comes out to purchase.

A Bright Spot in a Dark movie

Just saw the new film The Snowman, based on the book by Jo Nesbø featuring the alcoholic detective Harry Hole. Much talent went into it with not a lot to show for it, and that’s all I’ll say as a review. HOWEVER, the actress Jamie Clayton has a small role as Edda, the IT or systems analyst for the police department. There’s a scene at the beginning where she lectures the police on a new gadget for them to carry, and some scenes later where she supplies Harry with much-needed information.

A trans girl celebrating her quinceañera - HBO

These four films follow five Latina girls through the planning and staging of their drastically different, highly unique quinceañeras. Of the L.A.-based subjects, there's Lopez, along with Zoey Luna, a trans girl celebrating her quinceañera with several trans madrinas (or godmothers) who were never able to have celebrations of their own. (4 different documentaries, appears ONE deals with gender identity)

It looks like the studios finally grew a brain about the fact that the fractured digital landscape with buying movies electronically was actually hurting them.

Canine transfurite?

OK, this is just a bit of my warped sense of humour. I recently bought a copy of the original 1943 film 'Lassie Come Home' and decided to do a Google search about it. First, although it's set in northern England and Scotland, it was actually shot in the USA - not surprising I guess as Britain was a bit preoccupied with World War Two at that time and America hadn't yet signed up. Secondly, the title role which from the name is obviously a female dog (I won't use the b... word) was played by a male dog called Pal of the breed called a Rough Collie.

The Media News should change come Monday morning.

Well if we are lucky come Monday Morning all anyone around the water cooler will be talking about will be Game of Thrones, because the new season airs Sunday night.

I will welcome the break from everything else, sadly it will only last for 6-7 weeks then the season ends and it will meter out from there, since speculation for the final season will have to wait for next year.

Can't believe I just did that!

Well, it's out of my hands now. I just did one of probably the STUPIDEST things ever...

In a brief fit of insanity, I actually made a stand up comedy routine and sent it (along with an online application) to America's Got Talent. I figured if a tone-deaf, ukulele playing 12-year-old can win a million bucks, then why can't I?

Wish me luck (all bad, I hope... LOL.)

At least it's crossed off my "Bucket List" now.

Movies of Interest

I love movies almost as much as I love books and reading.

This time of year the worthwhile available new movies are slim pickings.

I decided to review "TG" movies as rated by Rotten Tomatoes. I realize Rotten Tomatoes isn't always right, but the audience scores generally provide good direction. After reviewing this list I added about thirty movies to my Netflix queue.

I hope you find some value in this list of Rotten Tomatoes audience scores.

Great show to watch: SBS's Fantastic Duo.

There's a great show on SBS(Seoul Broadcasting System) called "Fantastic Duo's". The way it works is you download a region-locked app. from the Korean marketplace on iOS or Android. After you download it there are multiple options but one of them is "Sing With Star" and you pick the one that says "Now Apply" or something like that and you sing along with the star in the video that pops up. It's called Smart Karaoke and cues you accordingly in Korean text on the screen.

Sister Princess Fan Fiction

OK, so I was up rather late last night watching a wonderful little anime series called Sister Princess, about a boy who fails his high school entrance exam, due to a computer glitch, and is exiled to an island paradise. Upon arrival, he discovers he has a quite large family of sisters (12 in all) he never knew existed. So I was wondering if I could put a spin on the story, and see what would become of it if the characters had been all born male, and as a warped sense of punishment, they had been transformed -- slowly -- by the island into the girls they now were.

The Legend of Georgia McBride play

This play seems to be very topical AND good. In SoCal now it may be coming to your area. Stay alert. "But how can a straight dude explain to his wife that the cash he’s hauling home is coming from a new line of work that involves full makeup and falsies? But what’s most memorable... is the tenderness between Burnap’s Casey and Okoro’s Jo...Casey may still be a boy but he’s a lovable one. And as he grows into a man by discovering himself as a woman onstage, he becomes even more endearing.

A film with a trans actor playing a trans woman.

The link below to the Guardian includes a film clip which looks like a thriller, alas it's Spanish with subtitles but it certainly looks more interesting than the average transgender film.

To Boldly Go...

To everyone here, I would like to say Happy Star Trek Day!

Today, on September 8, 1966, Star Trek premiered on NBC with the episode, "The Man Trap." 50 years later, Star Trek still thrives and endures. Boldly going and continuing to break barriers along the way, and all over the heads of the network censors (seriously, they actually did that back in the '60s).

So, may you all Live Long and Prosper!

Forced-Femme character in The Blacklist

SPOILER WARNING!

-----------------

So I love The Blacklist; it's smart, dangerous and exciting. But the last episode left a sour taste in my mouth. Season 3 episode 4 featured a young arabic woman who is revealed to have been a man, a young boy forcibly feminized into a girl for being gay by her father. The ending however, didn't give her justice or closure. Instead she probably went to jail.

Has anyone else seen this and what do you all think?

movie/documentary

I have DishNetwork so I get The Movie Channel(west) ch-329. At 3:30 p.m. CDT there is a movie coming on titled Trinidad and the synopsis says its about Marcie Bower. This was produced in 2008 but I've never seen it. I do know that Dr. Bower has moved her practice to the outskirts of San Francisco but still has some administrative aspects still in Trinidad. Or so I've heard.

Women Love Movies Weekend

I has to work today, a record hot day in the Portland, OR metro area. When I came home, I slipped into a lightweight skirt and cotton blouse to enjoy the cool air conditioned living room. My wife offered to let me choose what TV channel to watch. After a quick scan, the listings showed me that "Sister Act" was just starting on ION so I opted to watch that, since I've always liked the movie. As it got over I saw that "Sister Act Two" was airing. Having never seen it, I decided to watch it.

Sex in strange places - Brazil

A fascinating programme on BBC3 which is now only available via the internet. In Brazil, there are more transgender sex workers than anywhere else on earth. Stacey Dooley interviews some of them and some of the women sex workers, both groups feeling that they have little option if they want to earn a living. For the transgender girls, it appears there is very little else for them to do.

I feel so lucky I was born and brought up in the UK.

You're Beautiful

Hiya,

This time I'm going to recommend another K-drama (subtitled) called You're Beautiful. It is about a fictitious k-pop boy band who is getting a new member, however, "Go Mi Nam" is stuck in American and cannot sign the contract. His "twin" sister, played by Park Hye Shin, lives in a convent is convinced by the brother's manager to pose as the brother to sign the paperwork. Ok, you ask why just not fax or email the contract...but then where would the story go? The story doesn't end there but the girl must pretend to be her brother until he returns.

One of the first movies on TG issues

Last week I found an interesting movie on rarelust dot com, that I downloaded and watched over the weekend. The movie is called "I want what I want" and was released in 1972.

It is the story of a young man and his struggle of finding his own identity. How his domineering, womanizing, ex-military and abusive father threatens to kill him, but refuses to report his running away to the police for fear of losing face in society. The overcompensating girly-girl, the insecurities and struggles through transition that happened in the late 1960's to very early 1970's.

First time!

Hi all!

First time blog so be gentle...unless you like it rough than I'm ok with that too.

I've recently become a fan of Koean tv better known as K-dramas due to Netflix. They are listed as tv series but they are what we would consider mini series. Most are the very clean type that could be shown during family hour in the U.S. I want to mention a few I thought you maybe interested in.

For the culture hungry

The Guardian have been running a series of great actors performing vignettes of Shakespeare speeches. My favourite so far Joanna Vanderham doing a speech from Romeo and Juliet or Ayesha Dharker as Titania, probably because I'd loved to have played these parts and I'm more the size of the sugar plum hippo from Fantasia than a faerie queen or a lovesick adolescent. The boys are good too. If the link works, do have a look or a listen, they are brilliant.

The Danish Girl - the story of Lili Elbe, an early recipient of SRS.

I've been reading about the new film 'The Danish Girl' which tells the story of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of gender reassignment surgery in the early years of the twentieth century. It seems that Eddie Redmayne who won an Oscar last year for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking does an amazing job as Lili, and the pictures so far released seem to bear this out. I'm sure there are some people who will say why could Hollywood not have engaged a genuine transgender actor for the role, but perhaps that is a step too far for them at present.

The Danish Girl

This film by all accounts is very good, with Eddie Redmayne doing us all proud as he plays Lili Elbe in the film of the best selling book. Hopefully, it will help the general public to understand those of us who were wrongly gendered at birth. However, no matter how good it is, I won't be going to see it.

It's too close to home, too painful for me to even glance at. The trailers make me want to wince, not because it's so awful but because it reflects too clearly part of me, or how I used to be. I just cannot watch it.

Sorry been watching James Bond

James and I saved the world again from the nasty people who do nasty things to other folk. Well he did most of the saving, I was watching his back, then in gratitude he runs off with a younger woman at the end of it! Honestly, men!

The stunts are amazing, everything is over the top, so I can recommend it and it has the lovely Daniel Craig - what more could you want? Just some popcorn or sweeties...

Oh yeah, no time to write Bike - I knew there was something else...

Hollywood is making a bad TG story

so...hollywood has decided to make a TG movie...

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/161233-Tomboy-Gend...

The hitman (now a hitwoman) sets out for revenge, aided by a nurse named Johnnie, who also has secrets."

Doctor Who Series 9 (No Spoilers)

The opening episode of Doctor Who (S9) was aired on BBC tonight. It's entitled 'The Magician's Apprentice' and forms the first half of a two-part adventure.

My initial impression is that it's the best episode since Peter Capaldi took on the role. He seems to have lost the 'what the hell have I let myself in for?' body language that plagued so much of the previous series, and may - finally - be about to stamp his undoubted talent on the character.
