Yes, both of you...

A few of you know the last year and a half have been a challenge for me as my cataracts overcame my eyesight. Reading and writing became difficult if not impossible. I had the surgery in July. It has a 99% success rate but I was in the 1%.

On the 29th I had PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) also called ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation). For someone who loves to read and write this has been a real trial. I was warned of extreme pain and a slow recovery: Weeks, months, maybe a slow year.

The pain was much exaggerated: I had practically none. But, I suppose people vary in their pain tolerance. Anyway, I was glad to throw out all but 2 of the pain pills. What wasn't exaggerated was the slowness of recovery of sight clarity which seems to crawl; weeks to months they say and 2 steps forward and one back seems true. Even though my sight is slightly better than before surgery it's still double and blurry, and very light sensitive. I guess it's because they remove the surface of the Cornea.

I'm sure it will work out in God's good time. Eye drops every 2 hours are a nuisance!

I've missed talking to my few close friends here. but didn't want to go int details until I could be hopeful of seeing again. I've missed a lot of stories and conversations but at least though my sight is not clear there is hope it one day will be. If you were talking to me by email, I will be back there.

If you are a Facebook friend, it will be a bit longer. My screen time is limited for now.

Thanks for your understanding.

Your friend,

Ole

We are rooting for you Ole.

My thoughts and hopes go with you Ole. We can only wait and hope and that must be frustrating as well as a worry for you.
Wish you all the success in the world with a recovery. God speed and good luck.

Eye Troubles

I also haven't been around here as much. I've been reading a few stories (not as many as I used to keep up with), but not really posting comments. This was a crazy/busy year for me. Part of which is helping my mother, who also had cataract surgery last year, and who also seems to be in the 1% that aren't helped by it (or much). So I have some idea how frustrating it must be for you. She also loves to read (and is who got me hooked on reading), and finds is very hard now. And the eye drops... wow. For a month or two, she was taking five or six different types of eye drops every day. So I hope you both get better. I also hope I don't develop these problems myself. :)

Screen-reader software?

Page of Wands's picture

A friend of mine is completely blind, but very active online, using screen reader software to read pages to him. If you'd like, I would be happy to see if he has any suggestions for programs to consider.

I hope

hang in there..

... and thanks for your previous support. everything's gone pear-shaped lately so I've been very quiet! :( Hope your outcomes are better with time. Eyes are sensitive things! :(
