I see tonight that the UK has banned 10 acts from its porn? I don't even look at it any more having enough of that running around in my own head, not that I needs much.

One matter of distress to me is that they banned "Spanking". You mean that if I came to the UK, I could no longer get a few taps on me bottom ? I never felt that what I experienced as a child was even vaugely related to any sort of affection, so what I seek now and have been completely unable to find is that gentle rat tat tat. :)

What is the world coming to?

since Preaching to the Perverted is a British film that now would have to be banned from showing there. :D

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

I was a porn star!

It is odd that they would ban spanking and call it porn. The kind I got growing up was flippin abuse. So now they ban spanking, which means I was not abused as a child, I was a porn star!

Y'know, I thought Queen

Y'know, I thought Queen Victoria died over a century ago.

Seems as though she's alive and well in Parliament.

Long time ...

It's been a long time since I last heard from you. I hope that life is good.

As I read the article, I had an epiphany and realized that if I were an 18 year old genetic girl, I would be soooo bad, so very bad. So the fates conspired to keep me alive. Damn, that hysterectomy hurt though.

Oh...uh...

A dear friend once insisted that I watch this movie called 'The Ruling Class'. The film made the point of exactly how odd the upper class of England is when it comes to sexual practices. Of course, being Irish he didn't have to show me the film to know that the English are a bit...odd.. However, the film was brilliant and starred Peter O'Toole. It could not be shown today because of several small scenes, one of which involved spanking. How totally weird.

Back in the 1970's...

There was a film that got an 'X' cert only for Greater London. It was called 'Ain't Misbehaving'.
This totally made up of clips of old silent film porno all brought together. I saw it in rather seedy Cinema just off Wardour St. I was on the Entertainment Comittee of the Students Union and we got some free tickets.
It was really funny. Lots of nuns doing [redacted]. Naturally there was lots of Spanking and some very inventive Dildo machines.

It brightened up a wet Wednesday afternoon. We all (including the women) came out of the Cinema with a smile on our faces.

My, how times have changed (not for the good IMHO).

Actually it hasn't...

This is one of those stories that the media has spun for a good headline rather than the truth. The actual BBFC classifications are less draconian sounding and more sensible, for example - it is not acceptable to show "the infliction of pain or acts which may cause lasting physical harm, whether real or (in a sexual context) simulated. Some allowance may be made for moderate, non-abusive, consensual activity". That's not a ban on spanking per se, rather it's all about context.

While it isn't going to be the populist view but I support the BBFC in its efforts, even if I don't necessarily agree with everything it has done I do think that control on porn relating to violent criminal acts is a good thing.

I object to the regulations

I object to the regulations out of the belief that it's not the job of the government, in any way, shape or form, to regulate or enforce morality. If people want to consensually be whipped until they bleed (on camera), that's THEIR right. If someone else wants to buy that material, that's THEIR right as well.

I'm not fond of the idea of prodnoses or curtain twitchers at all - and even less so for 'official' twitchers. The fact that they want to be filmed doing it doesn't change the fact that it's non of the government's business.

Any sort of restriction lends itself to further restrictions. Besides, who makes the judgement on if it cause lasting harm? I'd bet there's some weasel words in there for psychological damage as well, which would allow those idiots that don't understand the difference between abuse and corporal punishment to REALLY go crazy.

I think we agree to disagree

I think we agree to disagree on this because I do actually believe it is the job of government to regulate and enforce morality in certain areas. As I said, I'm sure mine isn't the populist view but it's my view.

Let's put it this way, if

Let's put it this way, if bluntly.

A government that enforces and regulates morality is called a Theocracy. That is, rule by religion - someone else's religion.

Disagree

Or alternatively I just don't think it's right to be able to show sexual violence as it sends a poor image to young males on how to treat women and I particularly don't like sexual violence accompanied by hate crime worthy language. Morality doesn't necessarily equate to religion but y'know... whatever.

Oh - an additional mention.

Oh - an additional mention. Your post of the regulation includes this snippet.

"the infliction of pain" and then says 'OR acts'. (emphasis mine)

Thus, if you inflict pain, it doesn't matter about the rest. It's verboten. As erotic spanking, by definition, causes pain (even if it links to boost pleasure), it's banned.

Spanking ...

I had lots of the angry, pain inflicting, abusive type spanking and there was not eroticism to it.

Later in life, I had grown up and moved on, it is not surprising that the deep recesses of my mind would somehow connect spanking with pleasure. After all it was the only touching I had when I was growing up And,it is perfectly reasonable that I would seek it out later.

The sort of spanking I experienced as an adult was beyond pleasurable. The procedure started out with light tapping. Ever so often, one stroke would be hard enough to sting slightly. He did this with a number of different instruments, and went on about 1 hour. I even dozed slightly. He had to waken me when I he was finished.

Then he told me that the effect would last about two weeks or so. He said that my bottom would be slightly sore and that every time I sat it would hurt slightly and that would make me remember and I would giggle in pleasure. And he also said that I would be reminded of it at times, and it would make me to giggle and smile.

That was the case, and I will always seek that.

I don't even know what this is about ...

... and I live in the UK and follow the news on radio and in the newspapers. I've seen no mention of this anywhere except here and if banning was on the cards it certainly would have been.

Anyway, BBFC is the British Board of Film Classification and has no power to ban anything. It merely provides classifications for film similar to ones used here for fiction. I think it also extends its activities to video games to give parents and others who choose to avoid violent or overtly sexual films or games. I'm pretty sure the government doesn't ban anything except child porn and anything related to paedophilia which does carry serious penalties as I'm sure all here would agree is what is known as "a good thing".

At one time the Lord Chancelor's office regulated theatre, film and books but that ended years ago in the 1960s IIRC. I'm old enough to remember the famous 'Lady Chatterley's Lover' trial when DH Lawrence's book was, at last, allowed to be sold here. As a native of Lawrence's home town, this pleased me greatly :)
