I've just finished reading "Painted Ladies" by P R Ellis. Even without a transgender main character, it is a good police/detective story. For those of us in this community, the transgender heroine is frosting on the cake.

Mr. Ellis, weaves a tale of murder, and solid police work underscored with the complications that go along with transgenderism. Jasmine, a pre-opp transsexual, had been an up and coming police detective and ran afoul of superiors when she transitioned on the job and used her police training to become a private investigator. When a transvestite gets murdered while dressed, Jasmine's old boss, reluctantly calls her in on the case. Through many plot twists, Jasmine is instrumental bringing the perp to justice. The author gives us an insight as to the trials and tribulations of trans living by allowing us to see the turmoil in Jasmine's personal life and her relationship with her soon to be ex-wife.

While I would highly recommend the book, unfortunately it's not available on Amazon.

In his explorations of trans living, I think Mr. Ellis tries to put too fine a distinction between transvestites, cross-dressers and transsexuals. We don't fit into the neat little cubicals he paints in the story, but still he, being one of us and out, does not get out of line in that to the point of being offensive.

I look forward to his next book. If you have the inclination to read the book it's well worth your time. I got mine at Barnes and Noble.
