It is not a new phishing scheme, it is a miss link of something that is behind the hatbox paywall to the front page. As of this message it has been taken care of.

When we re-published an older story to the new Hatbox, we accidentally linked it to the OLD hatbox. As such it was prompting you for the old Hatbox password. IT was completely safe, and not a phishing attempt (we scan the site regularly for vulnerabilities) and nothing was in Jeopardy.
