Well everyone I'm back and as you might remember I lost my outline to my story Broken Phoenix(or so I thought) well it turns out I made a second copy of the file and stuck it on a thumb drive. Now I'm happy to announce that Broken Phoenix will actually be returning! No timeframe as of yet but it will be returning when I get back to writing it(which is right now actually)

You had me thinking about my

You had me thinking about my own computer and it's age. 5 years old, getting slower over time, and causing my Word file to crash at times thanks to the multiple needed processes gong on at the same time...if I wasn't so cheap and so fearful of using Ubuntu I'd just get a newer PC.

Instead I finally relented and took out my old portable hard drive to put my story files on. It isn't much(just 300 GB) but I don't have much in the way of file size anyway.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Don't forget

to backup again when you make changes/edits to your files.

What is so fearful about Ubuntu? IMHO, most computers built within the past 6 years are good enough for most people. Remember that in most places you will have to buy that new computer with Windows 10 even if you don't use it. There are places that will sell you kit without an operating system. Novatech is one of them (if you are in the UK).
I'd think about getting another portable HDD as well. You can't have enough copies of your data. A 2TB HDD can be bought for less than £70 (inc VAT).

What's to be afraid of with

What's to be afraid of with any linux distribution, after all? If you download any of the "Live CD" versions, (mostly DVD now), you can put them on a flash drive, or on a DVD, and try them out without touching your existing operating system.

Drop me a PM, and I can give you a walk through the process, including any 'special' programs to burn the DVD image or flash drive.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
