A long read (pun intended, since it's on longreads.com) but well worth the time. It addition to the story of Stella Walsh it provides introductions to some other early female track & field athletes and some of the interesting history of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Not only is the conclusion

Not only is the conclusion very poignant, this article also asks a few other uncomfortable questions about gender and sex and sexism, which is another debate at this Olympics. There still is if not even more than before, discrimination against women in sports.
