Cycling in a short skirt a road hazard?

A Guardian bike blog reporting that a dutch model was pulled over by a NYPD officer for cycling in a short skirt. Given that cyclists are booked for not cycling in bike lanes even when there are obstructions tends to show some inconsistency in policing.

The second has two interesting links, one a junction which shows that pedestrians, cyclists and motorists are all dangerous when in proximity to each other at junctions. The other is a very funny one about the chap who got done for riding out og the cycle lane--it really is funny.

I saw both of the videos linked to my cycling forum (ues, I am Steph on those too) but the thing that struck me about both the cycle lane fine and the Dutch girl was the absolute insistence from the copper that they were right, even though they were talking utter bollocks.

Because

They ain't normal. Why all the bigotry against and fascination with trans people?

Simple...

From a pedestrian's point of view, they're too quiet and too fast.

From a motorist's point of view, they're too slow. Oh, and motorists tend to view the few cyclists misbehaving on the roads (e.g. cycling onto footpaths to avoid red lights, riding two abreast) with significantly more vitriol than other motorists misbehaving on the roads. In law, cyclists are expected to give pedestrians priority, and in reality they'll give motor vehicles priority as well, so they're at the bottom of the hierarchy. They're not allowed on footways (courtesy of a law dating back to the 1870s, when motorised traffic was non-existent). As another silly example, mobility scooters come in two classes: one kind speed limited to 4mph, which is allowed on pavements, and one speed limited to 8mph, which has to use the roads.

Heck, even traffic engineers seem to have something against cyclists... how else would you explain these examples? Then of course there's the variety in official signage. On-road cycle routes may be painted with solid lines (motor vehicles are supposed to be prohibited from entering these at all times, although it's not too hard to find motorists mistaking these for narrow parking bays...), dashed lines (motorists are only supposed to enter if unavoidable) or even no lines (just cycle symbols painted on the road at intervals).

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Two abreast

Perfectly legal. The vitriol addressed to cyclists is the parable of the mote and the beam: in the UK, cyclists kill, on average, er, nobody, and car drivers over 3,000, annually. Rather a lot of them are pedestrians on the footway...so clamp down on bloody cyclists.

I think cycling in a skirt is just fine.

I think cycling in a skirt is just fine.
But this last line of the first link:
"I wouldn't recommend cycling commando in a recumbent."
Oh, now why did they have to put that picture in my mind?
I've been thinking about getting a recumbent.
