Lauren Travis

Printer-friendly version

Should anybody get a strange email from Lauren Travis, be very careful. I got one this evening purporting to be from her, saying she sent me a private message that requires me to click on a link to read the message. Now, call me suspicious, paranoid, whatever, but I'm not going to click on that link. If Lauren sees this she might want to do some checking on her computer.

If you're that concerned,

If you're that concerned, feel free to forward that link to me in a PM, and I'll check it out. My systems can't be infected by a windows virus :)

I applaud your caution as some trojan copied the address info in my yahoo account to send spam until I stopped it by changing my password

Feature, not a bug

There is a box you can tick somewhere within your user profile here at BCTS: what it does is send you a standard notification email that there's a PM waiting for you at BCTS, and provides a link to allow you to go straight to it. It's possible this has been defaulted on since the recent Drupal upgrade. Of course, you have to log in first, so it doesn't quite function the way you might expect.

I tend to just read the email itself since it tells you the subject of the PM, and then I delete it without clicking on any links. [I run Linux. I can open emails reasonably safely without triggering anything off.] Usually I'm in the middle of reading vast quantities of email from other forums I belong to :)

If this isn't one of those standard emails, then you have problems. It's quite clear when the source is from BCTS itself.

Making things clear

This has nothing to do with BC. I only used BC because I know she frequents here. The message came from Lauren's regular email acct. Lauren had problems about a month ago and it appears she might again. I have received a message from her and she is aware of a possible problem and is going to check it out.

I got an e-mail last night...

...since I didn't recall ever corresponding with her via my e-mail account, I figured it was best to just delete the e-mail and if she really needed to get hold of me she could find me here. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the heads up.
