I've been out to see an old friend, in fact my oldest friend, who was visiting the area for the day. We've known each other since we were eleven and lived across the road from each other. He also needed to talk about a few things, so, sorry he got the priority.
Hopefully, Cathy & co will be back tomorrow.

Old friends
If he's been a friend since you were eleven and he still keeps in touch, then he must be a true friend indeed and you must have been keeping in touch.
I'm sure none of us need to ask what you discussed indeed it would be impertinant to ask.
Such friendships are vital to our wellbeing because they help to keep our lives in perspective and our happiness intact. A friend of several decades is a friend indeed.
