The dresser, what else did you think I meant? The piece of furniture I mentioned a week ago has finally come together, mainly through the help of my next door neighbour who provided the muscle to get the top cupboard onto the bottom. It took me much longer to clear the space and to clean and polish the dresser which is slightly more damaged than I'd first appreciated, it being twisted on its base slightly - it's not noticeable unless one is looking for it, though it does affect the way the doors shut on the bottom: something I can probably remedy - the doors that is.

I'm still really pleased with it and I think it's a lovely piece of furniture, which the glass part suggests is probably from the 1920s or 30s. It's all wood, and I hazard a guess at oak but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I attach a photo, which does little to demonstrate my ability with a camera - mind you I used to specialise in insect photography and they don't usually grow this big.

That's gorgeous. I love dark, rich wood in a furniture piece, and the glass is very eye-catching!

NICE!

That's a loverly piece of furniture. What books will earn pride of place behind the glass?

Annette

Very pretty.

Not sure I can add anything that hasn't already been said. It is a beautiful piece and the green really make that glass stand out.

Excellent Choice

I have to agree that the William Morris touch with glass comes across very nicely.

Now I'll be told how wrong that was.

I often have to erect the wood by hand, before it can go into my storage. :)

Looks familiar

We have a very similar book case, though it has plain glass.

Are the shelves adjusted with a weird wooden ratchet-like supports?

I was told ours is walnut, is of a similar colour.

Audrey.

with wooden pegs and a series of holes for the insertion of! I thought walnut had more of a grain to it, like they use in Jaguars on the dashboard, that's walnut, or used to be. Mind you the average woodpecker knows more about timber than I do.
