Meh. Cold.

This is typical of what seems to happen to me over the winter holiday period. I have an eeeeeeevil cold and I'm reduced to coughing, hacking and dripping everywhere. Needless to say, I can't write while I'm in this condition.

So. I have 7,700 words of the next chapter of Somewhere Else Entirely ready to roll and with a little tidying up it would have been posted this week. That's not going to happen now. I daren't even attempt to read it through since my brain has been mush for the past three days.

You're lucky I have enough functioning brain cells to write this blog entry!

The next chapter was going to be the trial - and what inevitably comes after. Considering how much I've written and the fact that I've barely reached lunch time I have reluctantly decided to split the day into two chapters. I'm now expecting to post this part perhaps Monday or Tuesday (January sales permitting) and get right on with the next part, all of which is somewhere in my brain. At least, it was before I had this darned cold...

Meh. The house is full of food, most of which I can't taste. I'm reduced to watching TV and roaming the internet looking for non-challenging things to read. I can't wait for this cold to go somewhere else...

Be careful and don't let your cold turn to bronchitis like I did. The antibiotics for that really threw me for a loop, and I am still a bit weak. Get well and then post "Somewhere Else", which I really do enjoy by the way.

Be Well.

I agree about the bronchitis

It seems to me that all my colds seem to run to bronchitis and the three weeks of coughing that comes along with it. It is not fun and the coughing disturbs concentration in a big way.

So try to nip it now.

Get well.

Bronchitis

I've had this since I was a child. I've become so expert at it that I can now cough in my sleep without waking myself up. Unfortunately, other people might wake...

Normally when I have a cold I just get a slightly-more-runny-nose for about three days and that's it. Very occasionally I get one that takes me down completely and this is one of those. I've been worse.

My favourite trick has often been to get 'flu on Christmas Eve... what fun! When I was working this inevitably happened and it always coincided exactly with the number of days leave I had taken.

For today I've just been taking it easy and reading some manga such as the one Sephrena tipped us about recently. I'm also recording anime off the TV to watch later. Channel 4/Film 4 always does some good ones over the Christmas break, although I thought 'Ponyo' was a bit weird.

Thank you all for your kind words, and I will get better soon!

try a simple medication

Zy-Cam is good for cutting colds short. I use it as well as my friends and family. It really does work.

Two Nations

Over here everything is called by different brand names but I appreciate the sentiments. I'm taking care of myself.

Now, if someone could only do something about the infinite amount of rain that seems to be falling here, that might be as useful.

I had a cold last week, it

I had a cold last week, it was gross. I went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics, but he said he could hear a 'wease' in my chest,. He prescribed an asthma inhaler, to help me breath, which I used. 12 hrs later I was throwing up flem straight out of my lungs, great fun (sarcasm, sorry Alastair humor). It worked though, I felt much better the next day, and it really helped my breathing. Though mine was a summer cold, I don't know if it it would help with a winter one. I suggest the usual; lots of liquid, lemon tea, soup, warm pjs, a big fuzzy warm blanket( I used my scout blanket, it's really thick wool, rough but WARM) and plenty of prescription drugs. Garlic is good too, it helps bolster the immune system. ;)
Get well soon! Hugs

Anti biotics

Actually, as a cold is a virus anti-biotics are useless. I know they can protect you when your body is weak so you don't get anything else but over here in the UK everyone has become wary about overdoing the drugs. There's far too much evidence that all you are doing is to help the bugs mutate into something the drugs can't fix.

I'm being good and getting plenty of liquid and rest. I'm up but that's really to give the bed a chance to air. I'm wearing old clothes because they are going to get trashed so there's no point wearing good stuff.

I've spent most of the day in the room with all the IT equipment so it's the warmest room in the house but I think I'll have to move soon. There's only so long I can sit in the same chair and my concentration is beginning to go.

Hmm, perhaps it's time for a drink, another piece of Christmas cake and then a snooze?

Well soon

Hope your cold is a short one, they are never fun to have regardless. Take hot showers to clear your sinuses and use a humidifier in your house to keep the air from being too dry. And lastly drink lots of fluids.

Cold...

I'm sorry to hear your down with a cold Penny! They've been bad for my spouse and I this year as well. *sigh* We got a cold like virus over a month ago and after a round of antibiotics and other meds we've still got a really bad cough! I hope you get well soon!

My best advise is:)

Two things...one chicken stock, it really does break things up and just get a few containers in the house and heat as needed it really helps me. Second if you like it yogurt. It helps your digestion and actually really gives your immune system a good swift kick. The rest...Sleep, tea with honey and lemon ect, ect.

My cold has got worse

Angharad's picture

and I didn't get to the film after all. Have ridiculous coughing fits, or loud sneezes or just drip everywhere. together with a head that feels full of cotton wool and a body that doesn't want to move to do anything and my nose is so sore.

I haven't eaten chocolate for several days, perhaps it's withdrawal symptoms!

Hope you feel better soon Penny.

A :(

Angharad

Snap!

You describe my days exactly at the moment.

At least I can still taste the food I eat, and my appetite is more or less normal. Downside of that, of course, is I'm doing almost no exercise so I'll be putting on a pound or two, I guess.

Chocolate? Why, now you come to mention it, I haven't touched my secret stash for days now. Could be all the Christmas cake, mince pies and everything else that's waiting to be eaten, though.

Penny, have you tied

peppermint? Hope you get well, soon

Peppermint

Actually, Stan, I have to keep clear of peppermint and all mint-related substances.

I have discovered, the hard way, that such compounds can really affect my Fibromyalgia quite badly under certain circumstances. What I get is splitting headaches and very poor sleep patterns.

Guess what? It is almost impossible to find a toothpaste or mouthwash which doesn't have mint in it!
