Well this is interesting. As you can tell I am very excited for a new Superman Movie this summer. I have been avoiding reading much about the story as when Superman Returns came out I had read every article, and seen every trailer. I was so disappointed with the film because there was so little of the film I hadn't seen yet. However, I couldn't help gravitating to this article, Seems that Jimmy Olson in the new Man of Steel movie will be Jenny Olson.

I just read about that
the really interesting thing is that Jimmy dabbled with crossdressing in the 50's. So maybe she finally decided to come out of the closet the whole way and has transitioned?
(Boy, would that ever be cool. An actual transgendered comic-book character ..)
I'd read about the change
I'd read about the change from Jimmy to Jenny and thought it seemed like a good way of separating the latest film from what has gone before by mixing things up a bit.
I would add the caveat to Dorothy's comment of wanting to see an actual transgendered comic-book character done well. :-) I know before the off/on again business with Gail Simone on Batgirl she was committed to trying to bring a transgendered character into Batgirl as a cast member and I read somewhere she wanted a comic book with a lead trans character. Given Gail Simone is one of the few writers IMHO who could be trusted to deliver a real character rather than a stereotype I hope she can persuade DC to let her do it.

Olson. Did Jimmy has a sex change or get turned into Jenny by some villain? Will she become a love interest for Clark Kent/Superman with Lois Lane and/or Lana Lang?

The director just decided to make the character female. Definitely not going to be a gender change within the movie. Like turning the character Starbuck into a female. (who rocked that show BTW).
Like someone posted above, I think there has been much interest to make Jimmy a chick. The character can really go both ways, but then again, Jimmy does date Supergirl at some point. That might be interesting.
