Okay,I understand that everybody is working very hard to make things all spiffy on here, and I do appreciate it. But I just want to scream when I spend a fair amount of time composing a comment, only to get a "Site Offline" message, I just want to scream! I can't even hit the back button on my browser anymore, Firefox apparently wants to refresh the page or something because I am stuck in an endless loop of "site offline" pages. I've ranted to Firefox about the problems but not gotten a peep in reply. Each version of Firefox is flakier than the previous; I did not sign up to be a Firefox beta tester. But no matter what the cause is, my comment is gone.

Ok, rant off

thanks. I could use something like that. It would come in handy. I tend to think of stuff to add at the last minute and there have been times I have lost what I added. I used to copy paste it just before I hit send, but I forget a lot

Thanks, MG!

I'll look into that in a bit.

Just type out your comment in a word processor, then copy and paste it in.

Simples.

Site down every night for ~20 min between 1 and 2 Pacific

erin's picture

The site goes down every night between 1 and 2 Pacific for about 20 minutes when the backup process runs. From the timing of your blog, I'm not sure but it looks like you had this problem before the site went down. I'll see if I can figure out what happened.

I've had this very thing happen to me and the key is not to hit the back button until you are sure that the site is back up. The way to do that is to open another window and check. It's frustrating to work on a comment and lose it to some background problem but there really is no foolproof way we can do anything to prevent it on our end.

Hugs,
Erin

Time

Yeah, I learned my lesson and don't try to do anything between 03:00 and 04:00 CST. I try to finish what I might be doing by 02:45 CST. But this occurred around 01:30 to 01:45 CST. I'll try the second window trick, and look into the browser ext. mentioned. I just think it's too much of a kludge to have to type in a word processor or note program then cut-n-paste to the site. Besides, I'd probably forget to most of the time anyway! ;-)

Anyway, I really don't blame BC, it's Firefox I blame. So many sites don't support IE, and anyway IE has become to much like Chrome: hiding stuff that should be in plain sight to get a "cleaner, more appealing look". I'm old school, I want my options right out there in plain sight where I can find and use them easily. And Firefox seems to have gone to the "new version of the week" system and let us be their beta testers. Frankly, I wish I could go back to the look and feel of IE6, which at least stayed stable most of the time. Heck, I just upgraded to FF19, and I'm getting script running problems, like it's hung up and froze. Like I said, we're beta testers.

Karen, why not copy your

comment before you hit preview! that way,you can keep a copy to paste again when that happens, again. Oh yeah! Also paste it in an offsite account.
