Yep I did it royally. To make a long story short I was having difficult writing a sequel to Assassin. I got about twenty thousand words into the thing and I just couldn't write anymore, so in my brilliance I decided to write a fluff piece just to relax my brain. I grew lazy and started reading books like crazy, Vince Flynn, Lisa Gardner, Michael Connelly and many more. My kindle bill was off the charts, did I mention Tanya Allan, yep I bought a bunch of hers and Karin Bishop and Lee Childs, I've read every Jack Reacher novel written. Getting back to my bit of fluff, I named the story Twins. It's the story of twin boys who witness a murder and have to go into witness protection, yeah I know, the same old tired plot. Well these boys are identical twins so it's decided only one should become a girl. The story chronically follows their development from the time of the murder until the program is over. This tiny bit of fluff is now over forty thousand words and it isn't even close to being done. I think I learned my lesson, don't even think of starting a story just to keep the fingers working on the key board. Oh well at least I'll be able to post another story soon, I hope. Arecee

Tell me about it!

I was writing the last story in the Wild Side when I had some trouble transitioning from one scene to another. It just didn't flow well. Then like you I took up what I thought would be a short piece to give me a break so I could look at it later with fresh eyes.

Only if short means novella sized or larger! LOL

Yes indeed! It does happen.

Done it more than once

I have done the same thing more than once. My longest story I ever wrote was actually supposed to be a 10 page or less side track. It ended up being 2 years and over 160 pages. We survive, our readers survive, and eventually we get back to the story that was interrupted.

The only problem I had with the original story I went back to, is my writing improved quite a bit in those two years and I never could correct the discrepancy in the writing. If you are paying attention you can read the story and see a clear difference between before and after.
