Sexual harassment

Angharad's picture

seems to be a problem world wide, but is especially so in India, Pakistan and middle eastern countries. The victims are usually female but not always, and the culture is nearly always paternalistic and seemingly unaware, sometimes deliberately, of the problem. It is often reinforced by religious beliefs or a strong religious influence on the culture.

I was listening to the Today programme on Radio 4 this morning and a top male Bollywood star is running a campaign to reduce sexual harassment/violence towards women in India, brought about by the rape and murder of one of his staff who was killed in her office.

I presume things have always been this way and I don't know if them becoming news items makes it appear things are changing or if it's simply a way of steering news off other areas of concern like climate or economics. As a woman, I want my sisters world wide to be able to live their lives in freedom without fear of violence but I fear it will be a long time coming. However, I welcome any help offered by those who are trying to increase awareness or change things for the better.

Simply proves that women

everywhere are in the same situation with certain individuals and governments.
