Kudos & Random Solos

Don't know if they're connected, but I've noticed that the Kudos counts for stories are way down the RH column now, where they used be at the top above the author's story list. Whether this has anything to do with the unremovable Random Solos on the front page I don't know. I did notice one "Random Solo" that popped up on the home page for me earlier was Part 2 of a story, I don't remember which story it was, sorry. So I can't say if the story was classified wrong or if it might be a bug in the feature.

Some stories are marked wrong

But I can't do anything easily without knowing which one, sorry.

As for where the kudos list, I had not record of where they were before so I just stuck them in in what looked like a good place. I may move things around later.

Hugs,
Erin

An Example

Here's one that just popped up: http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/33412/fairy-tale-chang...
And I just saw an episode of Bike, #368 I think (no guarantee) as I clicked to read your comment.

The Kudos had been at the very top of the RH column on the story page, which made it easy to check when I looked at a story. Just a kind of cross-indexing thing for me, I generally look at the # of clicks and comments a story has gotten vs. how long it has been posted, and compare that to the Kudos it has received. I weigh all those against the story when I read it. Kind of a rough poll of how people are responding to it, some newbies may not always get the response their story merits. Helps me decide what I want to do or say to them.

The nature of Kudos

I also generally looked at the top of the right-hand column to see how many kudos a particular chapter had reached. When they disappeared it was after the upgrade/migration and I thought they would just reappear in time. It was only recently that I discovered they had moved down.

But here's the thing: Kudos is now a heading. "Good story" is a subheading under it, which implies that there could be other kinds of kudos!

I don't know if this is just built-in functionality Erin is making use of or if it might be expanded to include other types of kudos in the future. Interesting times!

Erin, I dunno

I've seen two more examples since I replied earlier, this one: http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/story/10141/magic-love-2 and a story by Andrea Lena DiMaggio: http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/42076/gowns-part-6-8 That's a lot of mismarked stories, if they are. I've looked at them and they are marked "Ongoing" and "Series".

Wrong block

If it's not the one named Random Solos Sidebar -- it has to be the one named Random Working Solos Sidebar. :)

Gone now

It said Random Solos at the top, but it's gone now.

Random solos missing for the moment

I can't find the block that was working before, all the ones I've tried don't work. So, until I figure out what is wrong, or find the right block, Random Solos will be missing.
