So I was looking at some site with strange pictures and came across this:

Kiddy execution

I wish I knew where it was from, or why the boys on the left are wearing dresses.

Comments

not odd

Probably pre 1940. It was common for boys to wear dresses until they reached a certain age. Even Hemingway wore a dress until he was about 7. I don't know why or why it changed, I guess cultures evolve.

Boys stopped wearing dresses

Boys stopped wearing dresses about 5 or 6. These boys are at least 8, maybe older. Besides what about the guillotine in the picture? Isn't that weird?

Tale of Two Cities

Looks like it might be a re-enactment of the Tale of Two Cities at an all boys school with some of the boys playing the female roles.

French school uniforms

The three children furthest to the left (one's face barely seen to the left and one almost hidden, you only see the bow in the hair) probably are girls. The other two to the left look like they are wearing "tabliers" as part of their school uniforms. In that case the picture should be from France ca 1920-70 (judging from the clothes not from the early part of the period). During that period "tabliers", aprons buttoned in the back reaching to just below the short trousers on boys and often quite elaborate, were worn by most French children up to about the age of 10.
