Counter-point to yesterday

Printer-friendly version

Well, I had a moment today that acted as the counter-point to yesterday's being called "sir".

I was getting some bloodwork done for my endocrinologist, and the nurse who came to draw my blood said to me, "I'm sorry. I wondered if there was a mistake on the paperwork you gave me. The name on the paper is a male name?"

So I blushed, and told her the name is mine.

She apologized, and said, "I ... never would have known."

We talked about my transition a bit, and I said one of the reasons it took me so long to move forward was that I believed I would never pass. That I would never be pretty.

Another nurse came by at that moment, and said, "Well, you were wrong. You're very pretty."

So that made me smile

Pardon me while I enjoy this moment?
