The Sidereous Prophecy

Blog About:

I have a vested interest in this new story having spent the best part of a year working with the author proofing and editing. I just wondered why it had disappeared from the new story list even though it's s till posted below. This is the first posting by OneShot so I guess it's something to do with that.

I really hope it's enjoyed by the readers as much as I (mostly :) ) enjoyed working on it. I really tried to find all the typos and spelling errors despite its being written in Canadian.

standalone tag

its a software glitch. the standalone tag was set by someone. perhaps not by the stories owner. (Any logged in user, I think, or at least writers can do this) It appears to be a manual process for a story to show up as a standalone in the short list above. I think that may be that they want to make sure it is really a stand alone by site standards since a stand alone story stays for longer on the front page.

The question would be what does the Part 1 in the title indicate? If it indicates that it is book one of a series then it would be better to indicate that by saying Book 1 so there is no misunderstanding that it is a complete unit in one posting. Part 1 is often used in serial stories to indicate that it is a multi chapter portion of an incomplete story.

The people who help Erin are amazing but we can help them do their work by trying not to be ambiguous in how we describe the work that we post. If we force them to read the story and see if they feel it is complete or not in one posting then that slows down the process.

They do a wonderful job in following the procedures that Erin has established so that each writer gets their own piece of front page space.

Also instead of using a blog or forum post to ask this kind of question a PM to Erin voicing your concern usually will get direct action the quickest, As busy as Erin is a PM will attract her attention and the best chance to get the problem resolved rather than a blog. If you wish to ask about the bug then a general post in the FAQ section about stories that disappear from the short list would seem to be a better venue. Remember once the problem is corrected a specific blog becomes moot

Thanks

I guessed it's a software glitch. I have absolutely no problems with the excellent 'staff' who help Erin here, as well as Erin herself. They all do a brilliant job. Apologies if my approach is mistaken. I know I wouldn't have a snowflake in Hell's chance of running a site like this.

As to the Part 1, it really is the first part with 8 more to come plus a shortish epilogue. It's just one very long, mostly character driven story with an element of magic coupled with a realistic account of 'what if' for the main protagonist's resistance to the changes he's experienced. So lots more to come.
