Torn. I said I wasn't going to do this.

Dead Ringer is coming together as a very, very different story from Rumspringa.

I'm worried that anyone who liked one might be put off by the other.

I actually started Dead Ringer as a kind of break from Rumspringa. Sort of how one day you do an intense aerobic workout and another day you do yoga, to mix it up.

Well, I've buttoned up 'Rumspringa" and now all I have left is the darkness that is 'Dead Ringer'.

It's coming out much more like an old serial, with a few paragraphs ending in a cliffhanger.

I got some resistance to my ...McNuggets. Very short pieces that just took the story to the next problem or turning point. And I agree with the comments. It's kind of like a perpetual tease.

I promised to post longer chunks in the future.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be able to keep that promise.

I have a bunch more written, but it kind of jumps around.

I'm beginning to think it works best as lots of tiny little pieces than as a longer, jumpy narrative. Reading one piece immediately after the other is pretty jarring.

I wrote them a small piece at a time, and I'm wondering if they wouldn't read better as a few hundred words every other day or so, than as a lot of disjointed segments consumed at once.

But I promised I'd stop doing that, since it seemed more like an unsatisfying tease.

I'm wrestling with reneging on that promise.

I've already burdened the servers with uploading the conclusion of Rumspringa, so I will ponder the Dead Ringer conundrum a while longer.

I'm also thinking that since Dead Ringer gets VERY dark before it turns the corner, maybe it's better to use teaspoons instead of ladles to serve up the story.
