I came across a video this morning; I can't even remember how, or even what I was searching for. But in the midst of all this, I also had been wondering about how we are reminded quite sadly of the loss of a dear one. Wren Phoenix would have been fifty years old today. I was prompted by a Facebook 'Today's Birthdays' blurb, and the link took me to Wren's page; still up after all this time. I'm glad for that, because the song and the images just spoke to me so tenderly of how many of us long for what the child in the video dreams and how much Wren dreamt of this herself. I hope you take away the hope that it provides and remember just how precious Wren was, and how much she's missed.

The song is sung by Alison Goldfrapp, member of the duo Goldfrapp, and was inspired by Kathleen Winter's novel Annabel, about an intersex child being raised as a boy. Lisa Gunning, the director of the video, optioned feature film rights to the novel this year. The song was written by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory.

Hauntingly beautiful in its imagery; both by lyric and picture, I believe this is as fine a testament to Wren as I could ever hope for, and hopefully it speaks to your heart and maybe your dreams as well?

Annabel

When you dream you only dream you're Annabel
All the secrets there inside you Annabel
Born beneath an emerald sky sing Annabel
Nothing that they did will stop you Annabel

Land of the lines tangled there in porcelain
Under the stars you'll be-gin

When you dream you only dream you're Annabel
Sleep reminds you takes you there oh Annabel
Gentle whisper endless winters Annabel
Why've they couldn't let you be both Annabel

Land of the lines of the years below still lies
You are the truth they de-nied
Run like the sea tangled there in porcelain
Under the stars you be-gin

Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh

Only a boy
Only a boy
Underground

Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh ooh ooh
Oooh oooh

Only a boy
Only a boy
Ahh ah ahhh

The title image is an adaptation of a still shot from the video.

Beautiful.

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair

sniff, sniff

now you went and made me cry ...

bless you, hon.
