Rule 63: "For any given male character, there is a female version of that character."

Wil Moss: "This new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy."

Jason Aaron: "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before."

Thor spot

I don't see how they can have a female Thor. I mean, what? Thor with long, blonde... um...

Never mind :-)

Now we need female Zeus,

Now we need female Zeus, female Buddha, female Jesus, female Mohammed, female Marduk, female Ra, female Aslan, female flying spaghetti monster...

It's silly sex inverting a character that is based on mythological character, especially in a religion where the different sexes have strong separation, and whose whole role in the pantheon is reliant on that...

Spag Mol

The Flying Spaghetti Monster has a gender? I mean... it's noodles!

FSM

And we all praise HIS noodlie appendages. :-)

At the very LEAST ...

It would need to change from spaghetti to shell macaroni.

The Norse gods had a lot of

The Norse gods had a lot of gender swapping in them. I have never read the comics for Thor but the movies are even loosely based on the comics it is very loosely based on the myths to start with. I mean come on the all father losing his eye in battle...

Based on the 'Wired' article

... it is not going to be a gender swap.

Thor screwed up apparently so has lost the right to wield it.

Pop Odin is going to be pissed. Loki is going to be at a loss also.

I have not followed the series in a while but who is the current holder of the 'Odin Power'? Thor had it for a while I thought.

For example, Loki

He's the master of biologically impossible reproduction:

By his wife Sigyn, Loki is the father of Narfi and/or Nari. By the stallion Svaðilfari, Loki is the mother—giving birth in the form of a mare—to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir. In addition, Loki is referred to as the father of Váli in the Prose Edda.

Just give that second example some thought...

Loki is a shape shifter and in separate incidents he appears in the form of a salmon, mare, seal, a fly, and possibly an elderly woman.

Oh, and in the poem Þrymskviða, Thor (reluctantly) cross-dressed as a bride to go undercover on a mission to recover Mjöllnir.

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Has anyone told Chris?

Actually this isn't entirely new. For a while Storm from the X-Men was the Norse God Of Thunder, I believe it was one of Loki's plots. I guess this will add another petson capable of wielding Thor's Hammer. Storm didn't, Loki had the Dwarves make her a new one.

But seriously has anyone told Chris Helmsworth he is now playing a girl? Makes wish I could bug the set for thje Avengers movie. I can see the other stars hazing him, calling him Chrissy, replacing his name in places with Chrissy, or adding pink highlights to things for him.

Tickled Pink

And I can see Chris having a great laugh about it all, too :-)

And I wonder...

... how long till Rule 34 gets applied to Thorita?

Not to be sexest or anything....

Thor is a specific mythological character with roots in ancient Norse mythology. I know that in this age patriarchal societies are a big no no, but in Viking era Scandinavia patriarchy was the rule.

Now if they want to create sister to Thor and give her like powers and another hammer, well, it would be a stretch, but it would fly better.
