BigCloset Picnic - November 1

Printer-friendly version

Author:

In memory of Holly Hart, today is a good day to announce the upcoming BigCloset picnic. I will be in New Jersey the weekend of November 1, this year. Piper lives there and Cat will be visiting from Old Blighty. November 1 is a Saturday.

Holly organized the meetings in Northern California two and three years ago and they went very well. I hope we can do as well.

We haven't yet picked an exact venue so we need some choices. An outdoor picnic would be great but the weather may not co-operate. Daytime temps on that day in South Jersey range from 35F to 70F so it will be cool if not cold. And it could rain or the wind could blow. So we need someplace with an indoor alternative nearby.

The obvious choice is sort of Atlantic City. Any comments, questions or suggestions?

Hugs,
Erin, Cat and Piper

East Coast Picnic -

Erin - I echo the thought that a picnic would be great. New Jersey is driving distance (1 long day in great weather) so consideration would have to given to holding it in a locale that had rooms available for up to two nights. Shouldn't be "cheap" but decent and accommodating. Some chain's garden type hotel which could allow for or cater a "picnic" on the premises. Outdoor in fine weather but inside in case of cold - rain - SNOW. Don't laugh - I ran a golf tourney north of here in September - weather was great (not freezing) - snow squall came up - every foursome but mine quit the course. The snow melted by the time we had teed off and started down the fairway on the hole we had come to and we were the only foursome to complete the round. One of the attendees was from Hawaii and had never seen snow before. She was shocked!!

Count me in if enough bodies agree to make it worthwhile.

May the sun always shine on your parade

I wish I could go, but that

I wish I could go, but that is the last official night of Halloween Haunt here, so I won't be able to be around. But I hope everyone has a lot of fun!

Wish I could go.

But it's way out of the way. I live in the Midwest and it would definitely be a drive. I will pass it on to someone else on here I hope might be able to attend.

Sounds wonderful....

I've long been wanting to meet my fellow BC authors, and that would be the perfect opportunity. (I'd especially like to meet Piper.) New Jersey is a bit of a journey for me (lodged as I am in the center of the U.S.) but not unrealistic. It depends on the price of the accommodations, of course, but it might be possible.

I have friends who live in Brooklyn and Long Island respectively, so it would also be a great time to see both of them.

Stay away from Atlantic City!

For those who have not had the dubious honor of visiting it, with the exception of Atlantic and the surrounding strip, it is a shit hole. One block away from the strip and you are in a bad neighborhood.

I would suggest Philadelphia would be better - Center City is lovely area.

Thank you!

As a current resident of Saratoga Springs, NY, a trip to NJ is an easy thing for me. I am currently spending my days and nights in a hospital in Philadelphia, but hopefully that will end in the next few weeks allowing me to return home.

By November I will hopefully be relocated to the Greater Toronto area, but as the company I work for is headquartered in Cherry Hill, NJ (essentially Philadelphia for those unfamiliar with the area), a trip back to that area is easy to schedule.

I would love to join everyone this year and look forward to meeting as many as can make the trip. Depending on the final decision as to the venue, I may be able to make some suggestions as to accommodations.

Center City parking

The best you can say about Center City parking is that it is cheaper than Manhattan. Unless there is a major event on the parking in Atlantic City is both plentiful and reasonably priced.

You can't choose your relatives but you can choose your family.

Steer Clear of Atlantic City

It is having a great deal of problems right now. It is not a happy place to go to. Four of the major casinos have just closed, putting thousands of locals there out of work. While I do not have a better suggestion at the moment, I would think a nice venue not far from NYC or perhaps another seaside establishment might be better.

North Midwest?

Is there any meetup in the "North Midwest"(don't get me started on how wrong this description is geographically) area, such as Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana?

Wow, neat idea.

I would love to come, but it is almost 17 hours by plane, not counting layovers, etc... Have a great time, all who can make it.

Cheers

Close enough.

I don't know Atlantic City, I have been to New Jersey (not very recently) it certainly is close enough. Hyp is an Urban Fae, NYC. So.... Maybe!

YES

I will make a supreme effort to be there , it is a trip I could add to by going and paying respects to my wife's mothers grave so I would not get a lot of resistance if I do those together .
Atlantic City would be wonderful

How about coming to the Cape ???

I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts....perfect for the LGBT community !! From Falmouth to Provincetown, all are accepted and one is free to be one's true self ! Perhaps consider having your get together here? If not this year , maybe in the future? Lovely place by the ocean, a very attractive get away ...Cape Cod awaits you !!

Not possible

As nice as that sounds; Piper, Catrina, and Erin (and myself) will be in New Jersey area. Driving the 6.5 hours to Cape Cod is not an option.
