…Lois McMaster Bujold in her Vorkosigan saga comes immediately to mind… I often feel grateful these people express their inclinations by writing about them, hoping it means they do not actually act upon them. If these people were to choose instead to join their nations’ intelligence services, or even their armed services, I fear the world would become an even more dangerous and scary place.

Some of D.L.’s characters get up to some fairly awful stuff. I am certainly grateful there are not more people in the world who act in these ways.
