Francine was ready to explode. She was making progress with Bethany on her first try and her jackass of a father ruins everything. She took several deep breaths to calm herself and then walked calmly over to the police officer guarding Bethany’s room.

“Officer, that man is not to have access to this floor until I say he can. Is that understood?”

“What? Who placed a bounty?” asked a stunned Janine.

Marcus was grim. “Prince Abu Bakr Asif Karim. The girl was apparently promised to his son, Farouk. When the Prince found out about the true nature of the arrangement, he went nuts. He thinks that the girl knows too much and could destabilize things for him if his enemies got wind of this”

Chapter 44

Iggy’s looking not that well as she looks at me and she looks at the cops and she sort of pulls herself up to where she’s sitting and she’s pulling her legs up. I sit beside her and she does this little lead against me and I slip an arm around her behind her back.

She’s quiet for awhile and just looking at her I can see her pulling away and getting distant like she’s lost inside her head.

“Iggy?”

“I was five…? I think when he first started…he’d tell me I was pretty…told me that I was special his perfect little girl.”

Tracy looked around the room. The room was big enough to fit two twin sized beds in it, plus a desk, thin, but tall dresser, bookcase and a bean-bag chair. Tracy pondered moving things around for a moment, but then decided against it. “I don't want to change your house all around.”

Frank got down on one knee and looked her in the eyes. “Tracy, this is your house, till your parents get here. You want to nail the beds to the ceiling, we'll do it. I don't know if it will hold, but we'll do it.” She giggled at the thought of a bed on the ceiling.
