Lad or Lass

LAD OR LASS

When I was born
there was an impasse
was I a lad
or was I a lass?

A decision was made
it was a boy
so began a life
totally without joy

As I grew up
it became apparent
that the decision made
was certainly errant

I tried my best
to be a real guy
but to my shame
it was all a lie

I played with the girls
but was mostly alone
I did not fit
what was etched in stone

My teen years came
I did not date
as my puberty was
very late

As an adult
I was very lost
I tried to fit in
but at a great cost

I turned away
from who I was
I told myself
it was just because

Life moved on
and I got married
children came
and I was harried

I steeled myself
to what was needed
and carried on
but a doubt was seeded

Can I be
my true self
or will I stay
upon the shelf

Now it is here
time to retire
maybe I'll find
my true sire

Am I a man
or really a woman
it is hard to tell
I am only human

I think that I know
what will come to pass
I was not a lad
but truly a lass

The end?

This is a very well written poem of

self contemplation. Am I or aren't I, is a question too many in the TG community ask themselves to justify hiding their true selves just a tad longer. And like the narrator in this poem, never do anything publicly to bring their true inner selves out. And that is such a shame too.'

To truly be ourselves, we must first be aware of who we are. Then we must form a plan as to how to live as who we are. Then we must, and this is an absolute must, be proud of who we are. Once we have these elements in place, then we can summon the courage to show the world who we are. The official government numbers as to how many people in so many are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgnedered, or just simply a cross-dreser are very misleading because they don't really know how many are still in the proverbial closet.

I have never been in that closet, and I have shown the world all my life as to who I am. I had some support and love, and I suffered some. But I am still me; the me that actually counts. I am proud to be me too no matter what anybody else says. Am I a lad or a lass. I AM A LASS!

Thank you for sharing, and welcome to Big Closet Top Shelf. I am looking forward to reading more from you.
