Just for fun, in honor of the new Green Lantern movie that opened locally today, I thought I would see how many people here would say the Green Lantern Oath with me:

In brightest day, In blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship Evil's might
Beware my power....

Green Lantern's Light!

One of the best

Green lanterns I've ever seen is John Stewart is the recently WB animated Justice league animated series. Ex-Marine black guy from the inner city with jade eyes...a definite change. I also really like how they depict Manhunter, Hawkgirl and especially Wonderwoman. it's a definite check it out kind of thing.

Oh and there's a GL corps short story anthology on PPV right now with Nathan Fillion (Mal from Firefly) doing the voice of Hal Jordan and it's a really good flick too.

Based on the reviews I've heard...

The general critical response appears to be along the lines of:

In brightest day, in blackest night,
Avert your gaze, withdraw your sight,
May you refrain with all your might:
Beware this film - "Green Lantern" is...
[REDACTED]

(Now you know why I don't write poetry or filks!)

If the trailer was anything to go by, I suppose you could say it's an antidote to the rather dark, introspective superhero films we've had lately, but to go so far in the opposite direction the protagonist appears to have a similar personality to Booster Gold... oh dear.

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

In loudest din or hush

In loudest din or hush profound,
my ears catch evil's slightest sound.
Let those who toll out evil's knell,
beware my power, The F-Sharp Bell.

Other Oaths...

By cosmic power and brazen hate
I forge my jagged emerald blade.
Beware its power, beware the flame,
Beware the Green Sun Prince's reign!

By silver sands and holy blight,
Am I named priest of emerald light!
May all that keep her law and rite
Kneel to my power, for might makes right!

By principle and sacred name,
I bind all things with crystal flame!
May those who shatter order's reign,
Beware my power–her wrath unchained!

She speaks four truths with silent wind,
And scourges flesh to cleanse the sin!
She hates your clamor and your din,
But laugh! And let her game begin!

In blackest day, in blackest night
May shadows fall on all that's right,
For those who dwell in dark or light
Shall know their doom–the Dragon's spite!

From deepest love to cruelty's bite,
Her depths untouched by mercy's light,
Let all betrayers know their plight,
Beware her wrath--Great Mother's spite!

By plagues unleashed and hunter's law,
Denying hope to sword and claw,
Let all who wander near his jaw,
Behold their end--All-Hunger's maw!

For another of that set, by Nephilpal, same place, different thread.

From booming song to prose unheard,
from dread cliche to plots absurd,
let all whose hearts still need be stirred
speak with my tongue - Elloge's word!

Yet another, this by Revlid, from yet a third thread. ^^;

I really enjoy some of my hobbies. ^__^

(And yes, all of these types of characters are intended to be at best anti-heroic, dropping down at least one sliding scale to utterly monstrous.)

They seek him there.
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in Heaven,
Or is he in Hell?
