Necessity is the Mother of Invention: Chapter 8

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

The same accident that caused the loss of his leg at age six also stimulated the latent genetics that ran in his family to trigger a mutation. Although becoming one of the ‘exo-humans’ the government monitored would prove to be the least of his worries once he stumbled upon his family’s secret.

So to give a bit of the backstory, I come from a family that was involved in Bluegrass music. My uncle was best friends with a legendary (within the bluegrass community) instrument maker and could play anything with strings on it. My uncle taught a lot of us kids how to play various instruments and every Sunday after church we would gather on his porch (or in his living room when it was cold) and play for several hours.

Apologies for no updates in a while

Sorry for the lack of updates to my latest story 'Necessity is the Mother of Invention' for the past few weeks. Many of you know that I live close the Mississippi River, normally about 100 yards from the water's edge, that distance has become much less over the past few weeks. So much less that I became the proud owner of an indoor pool in my basement, yes my water heater and furnace got a good washing after the water began seeping up through cracks in the basement floor to a depth of almost 3 feet.

Spring - A love/hate relationship!

I've always loved spring, when I no longer have to don a coat, scarf and gloves to go outside. No more scraping thick layers of ice off the windshield, car doors frozen shut (or the latch frozen so it will not shut after opening). Sitting outside on the front porch plucking away at notes on my guitar or banjo while sipping on a cold adult beverage. Although this spring the little one is determined that I should only practice the violin so we can practice together, but hey it's music and fun.

Delays, delays and more delays

Thought I would drop a note to let those following, Necessity is the mother of invention, to let everyone know that things got "Oh my GOD!" busy for me at work. Of course everything is an emergency and is needed NOW So I've been bringing some home with me at night to work on, on this 'mad-science' experiment I call a home computer.

Necessity will continue as I catch my breath from this latest craziness.

Déjà vu - Chapter 1

Déjà vu

For Wesley Scythe, Chief of field operations for the Department of Exo-Human Affairs for the upper Midwest region, life was anything but boring. Veteran of the South American wars where he led a unit of men that became known as Chimera unit, who controlled some of the first armored battle suits known as Warframes. Retiring from the Army Wesley eventually joined the DEHA in hopes of preventing mutants from becoming the mad men that his unit had once hunted in the South American jungles.

Necessity is delayed...

The next part of Necessity is the Mother of Invention is delayed. Not sure if it's due to the time change, new very comfy desk chair (the old one was getting pretty threadbare and the pneumatic cylinder dropping several inches randomly), or that work has just been that mentally exhausting but in the evenings after work when I would normally spend and hour or two on editing, I found myself falling asleep all this week.

Took the little one, okay well she isn't that little any more so let's say youngest, To go see Captain Marvel this afternoon at the theater.

With few exceptions, I've enjoyed most all the Marvel Comic movies although I have to say I think Captain Marvel is the best movie they have done so far for story line. Of course the graphics are exceptional as always.

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

I almost had this chapter of Necessity done last night, but try as I might life had other plans. I'd no sooner get off one call of someone calling to say happy birthday when someone else would call to wish me the same.

I was even interrupted in the grocery store twice by the phone as I was buying the ingredients to make my Nuclear meltdown Chili. (In my defense I have two friends and one daughter that also think the heat level is perfect too)

Luckily I found this morning free of interruptions and was able to type in the needed HTML and get chapter 3 posted :)

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Thought I would post a little blog about this one as it uses idea from my earlier story "Coyote"

There were a lot of ideas that came to me as I wrote that Whateley fan-fiction story unfortunately to stay true to the Whateley-verse many of those ideas could not be used. The ideas were too good not to use and so we have another much longer and I think better story that isn't limited by someone else's ideas of how something should work, or not work, in the universe :)

No disrespect intended toward the Whateley writers, they have produced some really great stories.

Just checked the temperature

A little chuckle for everyone

Got up this morning and turned on the TV, the news reported it was -33F outside this morning.

Out of curiosity I went online to check to see what the temperature was in Hell, MI (Yes there is a real town in Michigan names that.)

It was only -13F there this morning

That makes it officially colder than Hell here!

One last post for Morningstar

Okay with all the snow and such keeping me outdoors trying to keep a path open from the house to the car and the drive clear enough so the car can get in and out, I've been a bit busy. As the weatherman is predicting yet another storm to come through over night to dump more snow on top of the couple of feet we can't get rid of now, I had planned on posting the rest of Morningstar in one last single post.

Morningstar: Chapter 4

Morningstar

“You and I keep looking for light in the darkness, expecting it to appear. But it already has.” I touch his shoulder. “We’re it, boyo. Broken and cracked and stupid as we are, we’re the light, and we’re spreading.”
― Pierce Brown, Morning Star

It's Santa!

I guess I've stated enough in various posts, PMs and in my stories, that I bear a resemblance to a certain white-bearded jolly old man. And I have had small children, especially this time of the year, run up to me and tell me that they have been a good boy or girl this year, along with rattling off their Christmas wish list, and that is without the red coat and hat!

I also happen to have been given a heavy weight jacket several years ago. So several years ago I began wearing the red jacket along with a Santa hat to work. Thinking what the heck, if you look the part OWN IT!

Update?

Figured I would clue everyone into where I've been, at least with my writing and lack of posting.

I had a heart attack two weeks ago, or at least that what the doctor tells me. I think the ER wanted to keep me at least over night, but they decided to let me go after experiencing my unique scene of humor :)

While that could have been bad, it actually wasn't. The truly bad was finding out I am now blessed with diabetes as my A1C came back 245. Then they also found unusual liver enzymes.

For Better or Worse - part 8

For Better or Worse

When Tom married his wife, he truly believed the love they shared would pull them through any problems that may come their way, but what happens when you discover the one you married is not even human?

For those waiting on Coyote

Sorry I haven't been able to complete the rewrite/edit and get the next chapter posted yet. This chapter had the most rewriting needed and we've had a really nasty heat wave here that had mostly turned me into a mindless vegetable once home from work. Good news is the heat wave has passed and I can get back to my normal routine :)
