You know that hackneyed old phrase, "waking up on the wrong side of the bed?" I don't know the etymology of the phrase, but I know what it means. And I think I did indeed wake up on the wrong side this morning.

maybe I should just keep my door closed

I spent the morning with my three team leads, talking about user requirements, and the fact that we had some questions that only the client can answer. Actually, a whole lot of questions. I had a short five minute talk about it with the boss. The upshot of it was was that all four of us are on our way to Richfield, Minnesota tomorrow.

My new reputation as Choco-Monster

I was sorta dreading today, as there might be some fallout from my tough stance in the meeting last Friday.

But I guess it worked. Sort of. But I don't know how to feel about it. Everyone seemed a little over-solicitous. I mean, everyone in the team greeted me Good Morning today - several said "good morning, boss," or chief, or ma'am, or something like that. Well, I guess I had no choice - don't know enough to be the chummy boss, so I guess I had to settle for the by-the-book boss.

I took the advice of some of the people who wrote comments in my previous blog, and decided not to take up my office-mates' offer to shop today. I really wanted to - reeaaally wanted to, but I think they're right and it's the smarter thing to do, even though it makes me a bit sad.

So. Instead, I decided to go out for a jog at seven this morning. I haven't done any serious exercising for five years, since before transition, actually (though I'm not exactly a sporty girl, I did bike for fun a lot before), but I thought I'd start exercising this morning and burn up some of this leftover adrenalin from yesterday.

What a long day. I'm totally drained. Most everyone's gone already, but I'm hanging around for a bit, writing this blog and winding down. Nerves I suspect.

Well, my first meeting in my new company went better than I expected, or feared.

Some probably know I resigned from my last job just before Christmas last year. And there were lots of reasons why. Truth was, it was an ill-timed decision, but I just couldn’t stand it there anymore. Too much work, not being given credit for most of it, no respect from your coworkers. All too cliché, I think.

I didn't go with the girls in the office for lunch this afternoon. I begged off and made do with my favorite senbei rice crackers and a nice cup of tea in my little office.

No worries, though. Nothing amiss. In fact, when I checked yesterday, I was within my target ideal weight for my height n build (Yayyy!). Which got me thinking now about diet n stuff.

Last week, my doctor decided to change the prescription for my daily meds. No big deal, really. My new meds are exactly like the old ones. In fact, the only reason he changed it was because the new kind is cheaper. (My doc's a nice guy. :)

There are so many things wrong in this world, and recently, there have been many that have gone wrong with the world that have personally touched me. I won't delve into the specifics of what these are - I don't want to wallow in them, as tempting as that may be (I'm tryin' to be a tough girl, heehee). But truth of the matter is - I'm over most of them, and, right now, there is little that is wrong - at least nothing majorly wrong, that is - in my life. Just the usual day-to-day minutiae of life. For now, that is.

Learning something new everyday: So that's what "LP" means

I know most of you know this, but It's new to me. And I hope you guys don't mind if I regale you with what I just found out, even if you know all about it already. I just find it fascinating.

It's about vinyl records. I knew about vinyl records. We had a record player at home. And I knew what an LP was. But I didn't know what the acronym stood for. Sorry 'bout being so clueless...

Heard anything about Crystal's?

Woke up too early, and now I can't get back to sleep. Not worried though as I called my boss last night that I won't be coming in today regardless of the weather. Now I can veg out the whole day today an recuperate...

Anyway, I heard from some folks at FM that Crystal's site has been down for a couple of days now. I tried accessing it and I get a "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" error, which as far as I know is a hard error. Hope everything's ok over there.

Anyone heard anything?

DANNY
Part 6

by Roberta J. Cabot

This is a story about Daniel, a guy with a unique talent and an even more unique problem: A great singing voice and the looks of his gorgeous sister, and how he and his family and friends deal with life with him having breasts. And now, it is coming close to that moment, when he has to choose the path his life would go - between being a girl or remaining a guy. Danny finds it a little more difficult to continue with the subterfuge as he suddenly finds himself going on TV.

So if you wanna check it out...

Spacing etc. are still not perfect, but this is my first story with pictures. So I hope you guys'll give me a little slack.

As always - comments welcome.

Teacup Roses, Guitars, a Bus Pass and a Mistaken Identity
(A Danny Fairchild Story)

by Bobbie Cabot

This little interlude is set somewhere in the middle of the events of Chapter 8 of the still unfinished story, “Danny.” This does not materially contribute to that story, but is more like “a day in the life” type of story of the main character, Danny. This story can stand on its own somewhat, but it would be good to read Danny, unfinished though it is, to get a background on the story and characters (see http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/14774/danny).

Apologies for being away

Hi, everyone.

I apologize for being away - I just had a free moment now and took a look at my email, as well as PMs in the site, and I apologize to everyone who were looking for me, and new installments of Danny and my other stories.

I have been having a lot of family and job-related problems lately: A sibling had an untimely stroke even though she's still very young, and we're having to take care of her now. Anyway, hopefully, with therapy, she'll be ok. Also - I just quit from my job. Not to worry, though, I am starting with a new job this January.

In response to Fleurie's and others' requests, the first publication of Danny Fairchild Publications will be coming out this Saturday evening (hopefully).

Entitled "Everything You Wanted To Know About Posting In Topshelf And Were NOT Afraid To Ask, But Didn't Anyway," it is a little Adobe Acrobat PDF file that is all about how to spruce up your postings in Topshelf.

It will cover:

* How to make text appear in BOLD
* How to make text appear italicized
* How to make text appear both bold and italicized

It is near 11PM already, and I am still online here on Topshelf. And this is despite the fact that my internet connection at home is kaput at the moment (chalk it up to a drunk driver, a very old Ford and old phone poles. Looong story), that I have an early meeting tomorrow and I need to get some shuteye, and I haven't written my monthly report yet...

And here I am at a coffee place around the corner, having a verrry large caramel frappe and connecting to Topshelf via their wifi connection. (To be fair, though, it's a pretty good caramel frappe, and the biscotti ain't bad.)

Well. Just finished reading Skin Horse, from the beginning to the very latest panel, and all in one sitting, too. Can't believe I did that.

Well, what can I say. Seems I gots a new fav'rite comic!

How can you go wrong with a crossdressing psychologist that got turned into a werewolf, a warfreak zombie who chomps on brains, a talking dog named Sweetheart, a wind-up mechanical receptionist, a self-aware swarm of bees, a helicopter with a human brain implanted in it and so many others.

Plus a Doonesbury-esque sense of story and humor.

The Library: Rewrite, Part 1

by Roberta J. Cabot

an official story-entry to Topshelf’s 2009 October TG Terror Contest

Ghosts in the library. A fairly common story for Halloween . Telling such stories, especially around a campfire at night, is fun. Heck, it’s almost a tradition — a ghostly figure that you see from the corner of your eye as you work on your homework in the library, eerie sounds, unexplained movements like doors closing or chairs moving et cetera. Old hat. Hackneyed, even. Thing is, I was the one who saw them, experienced them. It might even have been okay if that was all, and if they just happen occasionally, and at night. But the thing was, the weird stuff started happening in the daytime as well, and during class. And it all started when my eyes changed color…

My name is Mark. And this is my Halloween story.

Witching Hour

Witching Hour
by Roberta J Cabot

Kim knew about his sister Kaye, and about her friends Diane and Cassie — the fact that they were witches. But Kaye was dieing. And, apparently, Kaye needed someone to replace her. She wasn’t worried, though. There was another witch who’ll be replacing her if need be — someone named Kimmie. And who the heck is Angel?

Author’s Note: I’ve been having a terrible time trying to write the next installment for another story I am in the middle of writing. So, in the meantime, as sort of a break, I tried my hand at writing another story, a quick one, inspired by a TV show about a trio of witches which I am sure you all know of, as well as by a new friend named Angel, and her little work of fiction, Kim, whom I got to know because of our mutual acquaintance, Dan. Problem is, this new story’s started to take on a life of its own, and I fear I cannot end it now, the way I originally planned. (Oh no! Shades of Dan and the gang…)

Anyway, thanks for the story, Angel, and let me know how it goes with Kim. This story’s for you.
