As I do most evenings, I spent a little time on my patio tonight before turning in. It had rained heavily some hours before, and a thick haze softened everything. The leaves of the trees made a black pattern against the soft grey of the sky. Here and there, the bright wink of fireflies dotted the air. And then, as I watched in awe, more and more of them gathered in the trees. There must have been several dozen of them. For roughly a full minute, my trees were decorated with the random flash of tiny gold lights.
