In many ways, this is a reaffirmation of a concept that's been part of the constitution from the very beginning (the Articles). Even if your state doesn't like what another state does, it has no right to abrogate that state's decisions. It's only been acceptably broken one time in US history. (As in people just accept that it was 'right' to break it, not that it actually _was_ right)

Up until a few decades ago it was done frequently regarding marriages, some states refused to recognize interracial marriages no matter the fact that it was a direct affront to the US Constitution.

In the article the crux of the case was one state telling another state "you shouldn't have done that in the first place" rather than ignoring the Constitutional rights of a parent.

Basically, it was one state telling another what they can and can't do and what they should and shouldn't which is not only against 228 years of history, it's ludicrous!
