Some Decency In The Porn World

Ran into this on fb. The day after Alexis Arquette died, a former boyfriend of hers started hawking a sex tape to various media sources. The porn media mega site xHamster paid $25,000 for it, and after insuring there were no other copies out there, destroyed them. I'm never going to be doing business with them, but isn't it nice that there are people out there willing to do the right thing even when it costs them a large chunk of money?

Thank you, gentlemen.

The Unscrupulous

I am happy that xHamster destroyed the videos. What a jerk her X was.

Call me bitter but I don't

Call me bitter but I don't think this is as applaud worthy as most think. After what happened to Gawker over the release of the Hulk Hogan sex tape, having a sex video featuring a recently deceased person is too hot to handle. As much as I applaud them for doing the right thing, in my heart I believe they did the right thing for the wrong reason. $25,000 is nothing compared with millions that the Arquette family could bring down on them.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Not really

They were under no obligation to buy the tape. By destroying it they saved her from being exploited posthumously.

While destroying the tape

was a good thing, I can't understand why anyone would want to make one in the first place, nor why anyone would want to profit by it after her death. The more I see of humanity, the less I think of it.

Trust

Anyone slimy enough to sell it no doubt kept a copy.

Exactly...

I'm afraid you're right in that regard. While xHamster did the right thing and probably also gained a bit of respect among the less porn inclined people, I believe it was for more selfish reasons like not wanting to be sued.
Someone will surely get their hands on said tape and will try to upload that to xHamster sometime. That way they can identify said video and prevent uploading or even as it is uploaded they can still deny any direct involvement and shut it down again.

As for my faith in humanity... I only need to look at Germany to loose again whatever little faith I have.

Trust but verify

If the slimeball signed a exclusivity contract with xHamster then if another person should possess a copy that they try to sell then xhamster can come down on the slimebag like a ton of bricks. xHamster was never in the lawsuit line of fire from the Arequette family because they didn't have to buy it in the first place. Yes, its good PR, but its good PR for the right reason. I have nothing against a person or organization getting positive kudos for doing the right thing. This is the real world and very few people do things for one reason alone. But it is still a win.

Just like Angel doing the video for the shelter house. As she pointed out, the win for the shelter is also a win for WalMart. WalMart gets their people in smocks which is great PR for them as well as a tax write-off. And the shelter gets the gift cards which is a major win for them.

Honestly, I get very suspicious when somebody claims to do something for no other reason then its a good thing to do. Whether its good PR for Walmart or good PR for xHamster I find it easier to trust people that have a personal iron in the fire.

Sex Tape

I am happy that this has been resolved for the sake of the people she left behind. Unfortunately, Ms. Arquette is one of a multitude of people whose personal legacy has been threatened by a mistake like this. All Kardasians aside, please think before you create an easy-to-copy and easy-to-disseminate record of a private matter. Despite assurances, you can never guarantee that there isn't another copy somewhere. I have learned this through painful experience.

Tiziana Cantone was a beautiful and vibrant young woman who committed suicide when a sex tape she sent to an ex for revenge was posted and went viral. Teenagers are often coerced into creating pictures or videos that come back to haunt them.

In essence, never record anything that you would not want to see posted to FB....and when he says, "Don't worry baby, this is just for us!" remind him that you already have the memory, and as long as he treats you right, there is the potential for a re-enactment in the future.
