Today was my last day of regular employment. After 4 1/2 years with a very good company, I retired today.
I left school in '69 aged 15 and apart from 3 years as student I've been working ever since.
I am officially retired although it will be two years before I get my state pension.

I hope to be able to spend at least a bit more time writing.

the "extra" time to yourself, though a common remark from the recently retired has been, "I wonder how I ever found the time to work!" Seriously though, once you are adapted, I hope it is good for you.
Envy - two years younger but will have to attend the salt mine for a good while yet.

Congratulations

I hope that you get to write as much as you wish, and to travel until you'd like to rest. I hope to see you again sometime.

Don't do the same as I did.

Take some time to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life. My time is so occupied that I don't have much more freedom from when I was working, though I accept that is my choice. This is the first day of the rest of your life, enjoy it.

I say treat yourself to a nice dinner, then spend a week or two curled up with some great books. Take some "me" time and let the realization that you don't have to work anymore settle in. I'd say travel if you can but you have done a lot of that already. Same with writing, it is nice to see your work and it's always great but you don't have to rush into it just because you can write more now.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Curling up with a good book

I'd love to I'm afraid that I'd get bored very quickly so I have other plans.
I'm off to N.W. Spain for a short break on Tuesday. I'm going to take the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and spend 3 days riding around the Picos de Europa on my new Motorbike. I saw the magnificent scenery on the TV when the Vuelta went through it this year and thought... 'why not'. So off I go on Tuesday.

I've never travelled as much as I have this year since work decided it didn't need me! Just being able to go without having to get. Permission is brilliant.

Enjoy and take care on that Bike
