Sorry folks, I ran out of time trying to verify some stuff for the latest Bike. Hopefully I'll get it sorted tomorrow.

I also ended up with a boot full of mud and dirty water when I slipped into a ditch while out doing fieldwork with the RSPB. Took me ten minutes to get my sock clean enough to wash and my boot might be dry by Christmas! Oh the joys of fieldwork.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Appreciated. And also: Thank you for staying and keeping to add to the never ending (?) story of Cathy e.a.

Muddy boots

Ooops! It feels like worms squishing through your toes. But, be careful of the boots. Leather shrinks and gets hard it not dried properly.

I'm amazed you've produced as many episodes of Bike recently as you have, given all the things you have going on!

{I leave a trail of Kudos as I browse the site. Be careful where you step!}

Gaiters!!

When I used to do field work I used leather boots, mainly because wellies used to get left behind. A lot of the time we worked on the moors where ditches and rills were hidden hence I ended up in them.
I found that a pair of knee gaiters and some duck tape solved the problem of waterlogged boots and socks. It doesn't look great but it works.

I had gaiters on

the ditch was deeper than the gaiters, annoyingly my boots are quite new and gortex so I hope the waterproofing won't be affected by having to wash them out under the tap, can't afford another £150 to replace them.

The research was getting accepted on to the biodiversity data base to confirm some facts. Still waiting for confirmation.

Ahhhhhhh

That is where the duck tape comes in top and bottom of the gaiters trousers get wet but boots remain dry(ish) It shouldn't affect the waterproofing - it didn't on my Mendle boots.
Like I said it certainly doesn't look stylish.
