So this will be a real quick update.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the building inspector was out at my house on Friday. He told us that if we sealed the floor with Kilz paint then we would be allowed back in. I'm happy to report that he came by this morning, was here for about 5 minutes and told me it was good to live in. The house is no longer condemned. So I'm not in fear of losing my home or my dog as of right now.

We shall see about the future. One day at a time now :).

I'm hoping to get the next chapter of my current story up soon. I'll get back to writing in a day or so, I did something to my finger and its all swollen so that might slow things -_-.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, support and advice. It really helped out a lot :)

I'm so pleased...

...to hear that the you are okay to move back in. Your well being and security are more than worth any delay. In the mean time, I will re-read some of your stories. If I missed a kudo, you will get it and even if I didn't know from the increased hits to the stories that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Good to hear things with the house are being sorted out,

We can wait a few more days for a story, take care of yourself, let that finger heal.

I accidentally cut off a bit of the tip of a finger just after moving in here, it was a week or two before I could use the finger normally. What made it harder for me is the finger that was cut was an index finger, and I tend to be a two finger typist mostly, guess which fingers? LOL

Happy to hear it

Good to hear that you got bureaucracy to back off on the issue of house and dog. Hope your finger heals up.

Glad to hear it!

Speaking of Kilz, These Ad-bots are getting wayyy to good. I noticed an ad for "Kilz" when I read your Blog, from Amazon, plus a book by Dewalt on building codes...

Glad to hear that things have turned around for you.

Have delightfully devious day,

You have two options. Use

You have two options. Use Latex, or Oil. The oil based will last longer, spread a bit easier, and may be slightly cheaper - but you'll want to be out of the house while it dries. The latex one can be done while you're there.

Oil-based...

...paints will also take a couple of days to dry enough to add a second coat (if needed; it's less of an issue with these though not unheard of) and you'll need to be careful of them for a week or so until they are completely set. Cheaper is questionable, especially once lost opportunity costs for dry time are factored (definitely good if you've a surplus of time to work with the project, such as with a leisurely reno, not so great if you need the space for immediate habitation).

Latex, by comparison, depending on circumstance and local conditions, can dry fast enough to do two coats easily in a day (not necessary if done correctly, but very doable) and have the heavy paint smell mostly gone with a little work within just one more day. The up-front cost is slightly higher, and it's not as durable nor as easy to apply as oil-based, but the convenience otherwise is pretty significant.

When sealing concrete, the

When sealing concrete, the times I've been involved in it, one heavy coat was generally all you needed. Sealing wooden flooring, I suspect, would be the same. The point is to soak into the crevices, so you pour it out and roll it along the floor. I found that the latex stuff soaked in so fast that one coat was all you could really do - and it lasted for several years with people just walking on it. No epoxy coating.

It all boils down to 'Can I take a couple of days to do it, then wait a day or two for drying, or do I need to live in the house while it's happening'.
