Its been very smoky here in Edmonton this week, as fires rage all across BC and the smoke pours over the mountains into Alberta. Should be good writing weather but I ... just havent had as much writing spoons as I would have liked. Still, I have a couple of pieces more or less ready - one for the September contest, and one for the next "mix tape" if it gets accepted. Plus I have one more that is about a quarter done, my Siege of Fiddler's Vale story which is started but kinda stalled, and a few older pieces I hope I can get wrapped up some day. So as the saying goes, stay tuned !

I can totally sympathize, Dorothy!

Here in northern Nevada we've been breathing smoke from fires in California for what seems like this whole summer. It's made for a lot of oddly psychedelic sunsets. And I have to remind myself that the inconvenience and discomfort (koff! hack! wheeeeeeze...) we've faced is nothing compared to having your house burn down, like has happened for many poor souls over there (Knock on wood! It's totally possible here in Washoe Valley, We've been evacuated more than once over the years and there's still plenty of dry combustible weather ahead...); Not to mention the whole possibly dying thing...

Good luck with your Mixed Tape story, those are fun; and I'd be real surprised if yours wasn't accepted...

I'm in the northwest corner of Oregon and we've had air quality alerts all week. Not so bad today. We have a little westerly wind. But we've been double whammied. We've been hit with winds from the North bring in smoke from BC and Washington and then winds from the east, bring in smoke from Eastern Oregon.

Happiness is being all dressed up and HAVING some place to go.

I'm still having a hard time breathing because of the air quality. :(

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

California's huge fire has

California's huge fire has captivated the US, but BC has it even worse.

I thought the huge fire in Quebec in 2010 was bad...I feel for those in BC and Alberta and Manitoba.

Too dry

While it has been too dry in the west, it has turned too wet here in Eastern PA and up into the Southern Tier of NY with flash floods and some general minor flooding. Roadway and bridge damage will hamper the rebuilding of homes, restoring utilities and removal of downed trees. ***sigh*** guess it sucks for a lot of us.

Lucky

God, I feel so blessed in SW Ontario. 65 years since the last hurricane, tornados every five years or so, and those scattered about a huge area, one or two blizzards a year, just enough to remind us we are Canadians. Floods are rare and localized, no wildfires (in this part of ONT.) It seems that the biggest natural disasters around here are potholes.

Re: Lucky

Yep, we have been fairly lucky, haven't had a seriously major tornado incident since the Woodstock triple in '79 or a really major blizzard since the "Great Blizzard" of late January '78. Both of those are still remembered by those of us who lived through them.

I experienced the blizzard first hand, and saw what the triple tornado did a few days later when my adoptive family visited some cousins.

I have to agree, big floods and wildfires are pretty rare here. Yep, some of those potholes I've seen personally are bloody big! LOL

There are parts of the roads in the Metro Toronto area that haven't been repaved since the early/mid '90s and the potholes are everywhere!

Smoke and fires

Yes Saskatchewan has had the smoke too and fire bans due to the dry conditions as well... ... Neeeed Raaiinn!!!!! No Smoking now... and have a good day!!!!

In MN Too

We have air quality in St. Paul alert today due to Can. wildfire smoke.
