I've now got my head a bit sorted and the time to post more than a couple of sentences.

Where to start? I've given little snippets about my recent trip to Germania but not much real insight. The more nerdy readers may recall that the main focus of the road trip was to ride the Eddy Merckx Classic event in the Salzkammergut east of Salzburg. It was a significant step on my recovery from last year's medical issues and on that score it was certainly revealing.

I completed the long event, 170km, 2000+m of ascent in a steady 6.5 hours. It was warm, up to 28c, and a pleasant day for riding. What I did discover is that, as i'd suspected for a while, my lower left leg doesn't really contribute much to my riding.

On a regular riding level it's annoying but not a real problem but for anything approaching competitive - well I think any ambitions that way will have to remain on the modest end of things.

Of course the trip wasn't all about the bike riding (although I got in a couple more rides along the way), it was a holiday road trip too. We (my almost 88yo Dad and I) took a leisurely route up through Bavaria, visiting new places and showing Dad some places i've visited on bike rides over the years. We covered just short of 2000 miles over the ten days and had a great time.

I'm constantly aware that each of these road trips could be the last which puts a sobering feel to them. I will sort out some images for you for Sunday.

Moving on. Well i'm home and back riding on local roads, I can't stop myself! I've not got any immediate targets, the next planned event is next April, but I want to keep on top of my fitness - it would be all too easy to let it slip, put on weight and find myself back where I was a year ago and in my advancing years it's becoming harder and longer to get back!

There is of course the reason for my brief appearance on Wednesday too. Yes, my Grandson, now 5 months old and 19.5lbs - yup, he's on the big end of the normal weight/size range. I want to be around for him for a while, longer than my own GP's hopefully and preferably able to do stuff with him. Refer back to the fitness thing!

On to writing. I'll be putting in a solid effort this week to get the next bit of Gaby finished - crucial as i'm away again at the beginning of October. I've got other stuff I want to write too so October looks like it will be a keyboard melting time here at Bell acres.

And that trip - well i'm taking a bunch of archaeologists on a safari of sites in Baden, Germany for the week. It's been a bit of a nightmare organising it, getting drivers, hotels, flights etc sorted out and may well be the last of these I do. This, trip along with a day excursion next Wednesday means posting will be restricted to Sundays until mid October.

Then there's technology, thanks to my tech support I have a stable desktop and a back up system. No potential for losing stuff right? Think again, from 3 back-up drives last year I now have a system that won't back up anymore so i'm manually having to copy files across which means I have to actually remember to do it so i'm back to square one. What is it with me and technology?

Well that's me pretty much up to date, so bye for now,
Mads

Was sort of working until I had to disassemble for the 'rewiring' but despite several attempts of setting up anew it just won't do it now - sigh.
