Well big news if you love car shows, Jeremy Clarkson is leaving "The Grand Tour" which means that show will end. Regardless of if you think he was an ass, to me the onscreen chemistry with his co-star's just worked and to me and many others was magic. I can't imagine who they could find that will be quite as obnoxious yet endearing even if he is a snob.

Not sure if misinterpreted

I can't find any news article that corroborates this. Do you have a source?

Apparently a few weeks ago Clarkson was the one to announce that The Grand Tour is no longer continuing as a studio show, and the trio is going to focus on seasonal specials from now on.

They announced the end of the

They announced the end of the studio format in December, it's easy to misinterpret since it's been so long since the initial announcement was made.

He's not leaving. The show is simply being reformatted to being a road trip show. The trio will be back for another series but it could be the last if he doesn't feel up to it or the ratings don't improve.

Hmmm

I'd not really heard of Clarkson or the show before the blowup happened. IIRC, Clarkson became more "obnoxious" than endearing causing some problems for the BBC. I've since seen some of his stuff and I'm not sure "obnoxious" covers it. It appears that others don't feel that way either, or why else would they be trying to pump up the ratings?

Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

Clarkson himself stated or rather asked the studio audience what they would like to see the three presenters do instead of The Grand Tour format, and they seemed to agree with the road trip/adventure type of new show.

What made Top Gear AND The Grand Tour work wasn't the cars or even the formats. It was, quite simply the camaraderie of the three. It's been proven time and again that you cannot capture lightning in a bottle or recreate something that works as well as the original and New Top Gear U.K. and Top Gear U.S have proven that abundantly. The formats were about the same as the original, but the chemistry between the three presenters just didn't gel and the shows have been IMHO abysmal failures.

Yes, Clarkson is a twat. A bully....but his part in making original Top Gear a successful show from The really boring British motoring show it WAS cannot be denied. For me. Clarkson says what he thinks, unfiltered by anything resembling agreement with what polite society thinks is acceptable. He comes across as an unthinking, unmitigated know it all who believes that his way is the only logical way...yet, somehow, he makes a sort of sense and It's refreshing to me to see and hear someone just let it all hang out without worrying about what some part of society will think about it.

We've all gone too far into "political correctness" I feel and apparently so does Clarkson.

Anyway, worry not "Three Amigos" fans. They will be back with a new show and new chances to kill one another, I have no doubt. To me, these three guys have the best jobs in the world... and just between us, I think they actually each love the other two. It's just that "man" kind of love where they put each other down, laugh when one gets hurt or has bad luck, but when the chips are REALLY down, they are at one another's side against whatever might come against them.

One of the things a lot of people miss about Clarkson

is the fact that, by and large, most -- MOST -- of his eccentricity is an act, a character he plays to serve as the counterbalance to those portrayed by Hammond and May.

Clarkson isn't just a presenter on the show: he's the head writer for the majority of the content. Writer, as in his attitude and obnoxiousness are a part of a script. I've seen almost every episode of the Clarkson/Hammond/May Top Gear, as well as almost all the episodes of The Grand Tour (I recently had to cancel many of my subscriptions to make ends meet, Amazon Prime being one,) and you can see that scripting clearly near constantly during the programs.

Clarkson has certainly done his share of A-hole deeds outside of the scripting of the show. Hell, he was released from Top Gear for one of them (though, if you know the story behind the crew's situation at the time what he did is easily explained and even understood if not any nicer.) Let's be fair, though, when it comes to controversial opinions Hammond has certainly shown as many as Clarkson both on and off the show, and often with less tongue in cheek rye humor to offset it.

Clarkson is a lot like Steve Colbert: the humor is in the host's own self-awareness of the horribleness of the character they are portraying and willingness to embrace that even to the point of fooling others into thinking it isn't a character at all. Clarkson's been doing so for a very long time.

Grand Tour

Clarkson recently spent nearly 3 months in Thailand taking a well deserved break. Last i heard a few days ago he was already working on season 4. May and Hammond have some of their own shows happening soon also so they are also busy

To a recent interview I heard on R2, season 4 is already in the can so if the Big Boy is filming now it must be S5?

The James May series

on Hornby was very interesting. He is very much a makeweight with the other two when he plays his role of 'Captain Slow' very well but his work is very enjoyable.

So slow once or twice in S3 and he has certainly pushed his personal limits.

I did enjoy the scalextrix around Brooklands and the performance of the train over the few real miles was an indictment of British 'quality'! (MiWo in Hamburg have trains that run that far everyday!)

Anyhow - roll on S4!
