How would they know???

Give it some serious thought. The "experts" claim puberty blockers dumb down intelligent growth. Give it a break. Trans have been tested and treated like cow dung and worse. But the cold hard facts are overall they are smarter than the average person. Many of them test in the MENSA range.
Sheesh, every week there is a new expert out there claiming some crap about trans which they haven't a clue but with all the letters before their name they must know what they are talking about. Then the MSM and supermarket tabloids pick it up and share it with the world.
I wish to God I had been born back in April Ashley's time when only a handful of people even knew she had crossed the "you're going to burn in Hell" barrier. Remember Christine Jorgenson? She was crucified in all the news media. The pictures they posted of her were obviously the worse they could find and everyone ran with it. She was actually a very beautiful lady.
According to the foremost expert on trans, Harry Benjamin, we are all mentally unstable. Seems as if the news never publishes the unbelievable advances in science trans have accomplished.
The world isn't going to change as long as there are people who have such a slim hold on their male or female persona it scares the absolute bejebers out of them there are those abominations who would trade an outie for an innie and visa versa. Some of the most accepting of trans are heavy bikers. They don't have a doubt what gender they are and trans doesn't bother them one bit one way or another.
I'm not here to change anyone's mind. Over the years I found most people have a mental comfort zone and refuse to look at or read anything that doesn't reinforce that mental barrier they have even if science paints a completely different picture. The medical profession is one of the worse as after all the proven lab research on trans it seems MtF have a female brain and FtM have a male brain.
Can't fix locked in ignorance.

Barbie - Be Afraid

I agree with your comment about bikers being accepting because they're not worried about their manhood.

When you start from the premise that someone with an agenda wants you to be afraid . . . you can understand why many articles are written and videos are posted.

What would scare many dumb-ass males more than a threat to their next erection?

The message is "If you believe in transpeople it could happen to you."

Pure unadulterated crap. But it sells magazines and gets people elected, because they can fix it.

Barbie - your comment sounds very much like my next story. I have over 50,000 words written and it's in its fourth version and will be posted within weeks. I will post all seventeen chapters in one posting. It's set mainly in 1955 and deals with Christine, Dr. Angelo, Harry, Johns Hopkins, and the FUBAR world of the fifties... when America was great.

Hope you're well and I hope there's a hell . . . at least one that Jimmy Hatlo would love.

Science and the Media

Most Folk have never allowed the facts to interfere with their beliefs. It is dangerous to think that will ever change. Facts can change, evolve, over time as new material is discovered, it seems to me the evidence is that beliefs don't, or at least they take much longer to do so. There are those who would use trans people for firewood TODAY, and they don't all live in Salem Massachsetts, nor are they all descended from folk who did similar in 1692/3.

The expression, "A man convinced against his will is of his own opinion still," is a very old one. I suspect there is a good reason why it has lasted so long. So be wary of zealots with boxes of matches!

Most scientific discoveries are initially tentative, and even their discoverers await further confirmation from others. The problem is the media who want instant sensation and who have little or no understanding of the matter. This results in headlines making ridiculous claims that the original authors never intended, damaging the reputation of science as a whole and from time to time cruelly destroying the hopes of people with serious life threatening conditions. The tragedy, to me at least, is the media act with impunity arguing 'freedom of the press' and 'the public have a right to know'.Till the greater public (us, all of us, trans, cis, black, white, &c. &c.) accept our share of the responsibility and make them accountable for what they publish we'll just have to live with it. I'm a retired STEM academic, so I'd use them for firewood. Does that makes me a bigot?

wait, what?

"Puberty blockers decrease IQ in underage children!" ...aren't all children underage? and if they were 'overage', would they not have already gone through puberty. and if they were, wouldn't they also not be 'children'?

Citing a video on youtube as scientific fact is like citing The Onion as legitimate news.

Citing youtube video?

Yeah right?

I hear that there are youtube videos that prove the moon landing is a hoax and the Earth is flat.

Proof!

Politicized? Agenda?

laika's picture

He sure didn't stick to the topic of the Guardian article as he went on and on about how "politicized trans groups" are infringing on his right to call transwomen men, the trans mafia is silencing serious science (brave voices=in-the-wilderness like Ken Zucker Paul McHugh...), and then managed to started harping on that great right wing hobgoblin "Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria" (the internet made me trans!) before the 3 minute mark. And finally his "proof" was a claim about ONE child who supposedly suffered a decrease in intelligence due to puberty blockers before going back to his spiel about them insidious trans activists suckering people into thinking they have gender dysphoria. One. Boy howdy, that's some big-time science right there!

This is serious and needs to be acknowledged????
Maybe it is. But point me to the study, not to some transphobic
youtuber asshole with an obvious agenda + then we'll talk...

This Timcast person

Cites junk science, biased professors and one off events. Then he tries to claim the the 'science' that he is peddling should trump the data that more rigorous studies have found. Further, he professes that the standards of care that are supported by legitimate science are driven by a 'liberal' political agenda. The man deserves no serious consideration IMO.

Estrogen Increases Life Span...

Yes, I read an article that asserted that post op MTF folk on Estrogen live longer by as much as 15 years.

Yes well.

lowering IQ

mountaindrake's picture

A vegetarian or vegan diet for children under 10 yrs of poor nutrition are a big cut to IQ after 10 those type of diets are fine. By the way supplements do not replace the proteins and amino acids found in meat it is not that you need a lot only about 3 to 4 ounces a day and a mixed variety over each month and remember it is less for younger children. It is also good to stay away from heavily processed foods. And please remember to include plenty of fruits and vegetables preferably prepared from fresh, frozen or dehydrated with no additives if possible otherwise canned is good.

Have a good day and enjoy life.

The pain of thinking

0.25tspgirl's picture

Social Psychology (the space where sociology and psychology over lap) has research supporting the belief that thinking is hard work. Because it is also painful (complex reality and disproved beliefs) most people avoid thinking as often as possible. This means the majority of people latch onto some one who tells them what to think and believe. (Sheeple is the term I believe....) prima faci evidence: the universal use of stereotypes to make quick decisions about other people.

first half. their SOLE evidence is ONE case. and who knows if it was done properly etc. ONE PERSON, they are basing this broad statement on. the right is really grasping for straws, of course, they brought up the fact that haters cant express their hate to persons in their care, trans "trenders" etc are of course brought up as excuses for this crap. sigh.

you know because social media influenced us all the way back to the 50-60's lol. yeah its THAT stupid.

Cliff, did you bother to watch this at all? or just going of the title?

Teresa L.

Yes I did watch it.

The study was conducted in Britain, and because they thought the results were controversial they never came out with the results. I have no problems with transitioning. My problem is with medications that have negative side effects; I have experience in this. Don't call me a bigot or whatever you want to think I am without knowing me because this topic pushes your buttons.
If someone takes a drug to fix a neurological problem and say it fixes that but makes something else in your body worse is it really helpful? I have been in a community with disabled people for many years and have seen how certain medications stuff up people's lives.
If a kid thinks they're trans- let them reach adulthood and if they want to they can have surgery on their vocal chords instead of having the blockers. They can have hair removal.
People don't need to damage their brains because they want to change sex!

Oh dear

There IS/WAS no study.
This is a report on the personal views of someone who does not qualify as an expert on trans issues.
The ONE case involved is someone from Canada.

As soon as you pass a comment like "Let them reach adulthood…" it is clear you know absolutely nothing about trans issues. Puberty blockers have a very long and established history, as they are used for treating premature puberty, have been for a very long time, and their effects are well established. They are the approved treatment of all professional bodies.

"I have experience in this". What? You are a qualified medical expert, or you have been through transition after taking puberty blockers? Some of us (me included) work professionally in this field, not to mention have a REAL lived experience of childhood trans issues. Our ACTUAL expertise does not derive from YouTube videos.

"Don't call me a bigot..." Nobody did. The people who push this BS are bigots. It pushes our buttons because it is an attack on our very existence. The whole video is junk "science", as can be seen by the references to the non-existent ROGD.

The rest of your comment consists of "I have read a conspiracy theory on the internet. I now have concerns".

And there is evidence the world is a pancake run by giant lizards. There is no evidence that puberty blockers cause harm. There is copious real evidence that puberty blockers cut the suicide rate for trans children, which runs at nearly 50%. I tried twice, at 12 and 15, but I should, in your expert opinion, have waited until I reached adulthood. Your bias is implicit on your own words "If a kid thinks they are trans".

Please look at what others have said, and unless you are medically qualified, AND have specific expertise in trans issues, AND can justify holding an opinion that contradicts everyone from WPATH to WHO, AND have justification that includes more than a hate piece from an anti-trans newspaper and a conspiracy-theory YouTube link, please stay out of our lives.

peer reviewed studies

My admittedly unskilled search found only the one study of a single subject, the one linked to a reddit thread on this topic. It was in some Brazilian journal I never heard of though that does not necessarily make it questionable. I believe the methodology does make it questionable. Certainly I could examine a dog born with three legs on certain farm and conclude that all dogs on this farm have only three legs by this method.

What ISN'T on youtube?

I am wondering what the stupidest idea is that one can't find a youtube video supporting it?

Whatever it is, it has to be awfully stupid.

I dunno. Any good videos

I dunno. Any good videos there espousing the benefits of Russian Roulette?

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Drivel

CONTENT WARNING: MILD SWEARING

It is part of an organised campaign run by several people, and ties in with other hate groups. The Guardian article cites an 'expert' in a governor of a gender clinic who actually has zero experience re trans people. None. It is like a school governor with a degree in physics but no teaching experience discussing the practicalities of teaching.

Read some of the comments to get a flavour of where this is coming from, but, as so many people here have already said, this is bollocks, pure and simple. It is the same sort of pish and shite that you get from the cigarette industry as to why smoking is not harmful ("I once heard of a man who smoked 3,000 a day and lived till he was 862..."), along with other special interest groups. Let's look at the science:

ROGD. Drivel 'proved' by the 'research' pf sending questionnaires to three anti-trans hate groups and no other investigation at all.
Desistence: a sample of one, from a population of one. I can 'prove', using the same techniques, that all dogs are poodles, or that there is no such thing as rain. I just need to narrow my sample population.

Then, once again as so many people here have pointed out, this is one random nutjob on YouTube. Who wears a woolly hat indoors.

Should We Survive...

With the decreasing age of puberty in both females and males, perhaps puberty blockers will be common to prevent child bearing until children reach a more mature age, like even 30 perhaps? Imagine getting clear through College or Trade School before boys and girls start chasing each other? I think there have been more than one story written with that as an element.

Apologies to site

I am sorry for reacting forcefully here, but those who are trans will understand. To save further upset, I have put them on 'ignore'.
