There was a recent post about voting on a site for amazon workers.

I warned that there would be repercussions.

I did not expect it to occur this fast though

Today I was on amazon looking at ordering some stuff that would come out of the united states..

Now amazon has an import fee.

the item was 22 for some lightweight plastic pieces.

import fee is $6

yeah...thanks guys.

huh?

You think that's Amazon's doing? Been reading the news at all for the last three years? :)

Sorry but don't believe it is Amazon

Trade Wars have been heating up between the U.S. and most every other nation.
It is the reason I'm looking at over three hundred bales of wheat hay wondering if I can cook it long enough to make it eatable. Trade Wars was knocking the legs out of wheat prices so I bailed it instead of harvesting. Every farmer rancher from Oklahoma City to Amarillo thought the same thing. There is wheat bales in the fields everywhere one looks for three hundred miles. Guess what that did to wheat hay prices? Price dropped from ninety eight dollars a bail to forty six and it still didn't sell.
I wouldn't be to quick to finger point at Amazon on this one. Every nation out there is threatening every other nation with trade wars, import duties.

Inport or Export duties?

BarbieLee's picture

If it is "import" that is tax the nation importing the goods has imposed
If it is "export" that is the tax the sender nation shipping the goods has imposed
Amazon has nothing to do with either one besides collecting the taxes for respective nations that applied the tax

shipping and handling

import/export duties are under shipping and handling. That has nothing to do with the import fee amazon is now suddenly listing. I do mean suddenly less than a week ago there was no fee. Now there is.

Obviously not

You're deluded, confused or trolling. Not worth disputing you any way.

Import or VAT fees

Import or VAT fees
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/import-duty.asp
The U.S. has import fees on steel and many other products including vehicles not made in the U.S. There is an import fee levied on phones, computers, chips, etc. shipped from China. Some nations who have an import fee levied on their product mislabel it from another nation (no fees) or they have a no duties shipping terminal in another nation. The product is transported there and shipped out.
politics is a dirty lucrative game for every nation. There are several no duties terminals in the U.S. where goods are imported and then taxed as they are moved out as if the product was made in the U.S. It's an endless game.

export fees
https://definitions.uslegal.com/e/export-duty/
nations use both import and export to raise revenue or to protect a business or a mfg in their country. India has export fees on drugs. I know because I purchase from same. The wheat I raise in Oklahoma is shipped to nations all over the world. The same with livestock. They have a tiny export tax which our nation uses to balance the import of goods from many nations. Buying Chinese goods and finances flowing out of the U.S. would break the nation if there wasn't some sort of reversal revenue to balance the cash flow. Personally, I'm pissed as my crops have to compete with third world nations which is a no win for framers, ranchers. We are a dying breed. That four dollar a loaf bread you purchased? Approximately ten cents of that was paid to the farmer when his-her wheat was harvested. The rest of the price is mfg, shipping, and store added fees. Bankruptcy among ranchers and farmers is at an all time high. Big Business buys the farm, ranch, write it off as a tax deduction. And this nation is slowly changed from family to Big Business. I believe there is a purpose behind it. Once Big Business owns the largest percentage of farms, ranches, they can set the prices of farm goods. There will be price sticker shock to the masses in the food aisles. Enjoy!

Anyone want to guess why civics and economics is no longer taught in Jr. High and High School? There is a dark reason behind it.
