I can understand the anger.

The riots are two miles from me in one direction and four miles in another direction.

If I hadn't been watching the coverage on TV nothing would seem amiss.

I don't condone the destruction but . . .. The county attorney who hasn't brought charges yet is a long time jerk. His dad was governor and Agri Sec in JFK's cabinet. These riots are on his hands.

Looked up the situation.

Daphne Xu's picture

I had to look up the situation. I don't follow the news the way I should. Yet another unarmed black man killed by police.

"Protesters have set a Minneapolis police station on fire" -- For once, they've chosen an appropriate target. With rampant police lawlessness, I prefer targeting them over random places. (I'm not sure if "for once" is accurate.)

"It's heartbreaking for everybody I know ... everybody I know looks at that video and feels like crying or throwing up, and it's disgusting, it's unacceptable." "If it was just George Floyd then maybe that would be one thing. But you know, as we all know, we've seen video after video…we've seen that the people responsible go free. And it seems no one gets held accountable." -- St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter.

"A riot is the language of the unheard." -- Martin Luther King Jr.

"What would I do if I were in their shoes? And it was very clear: I would have done exactly the same thing." -- Anthony Fauci about Larry Kramer, ACT-UP, and similar.

"If they make the Ku Klux Klan nonviolent, I'll be nonviolent. If they make the White Citizens Council nonviolent, I'll be nonviolent. But as long as you've got somebody else not being nonviolent, I don't want anybody coming to me talking any nonviolent talk." -- Malcolm X

"Nyeah-nyeah! Look at what we can do, and you can't do a damn thing about it!"

"A riot is the language of the unheard." -- Martin Luther King Jr.

Full quote below.

"Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. ... But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation's summers of riots are caused by our nation's winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again." -- [Martin Luther King Jr., "The Other America"]

You do realize

Any reason to riot, destroy property they didn't work to build, steal from businesses material things they didn't work to pay for is a golden opportunity. If one isn't working. If the government dole is guaranteed whether one is destroying other people's lives.
What do they call it when ten or sixty swarm a business turning over racks, stealing, and then running out the door with their arms full of ill gotten goodies? This is same thing on a grander scale. No morals, no ethics, no conscience, no God. Society's civilization, humanity is a very thin veneer.
Stick to the fiction. One may bail out of the situation if the story line doesn't suit them.

Real

I see George Floyd, Derek Chauvin and Colin Kaepernick. This is real. I had a coworker say once: "If this is how they are going to treat me this is how I'm going to act." I was confused at the time about the direction of causality. I think I understand it now. I hope I can sympathize and even empathize with where these men find themselves. Solidarity.
