It doesn't really matter to anyone but me, I know, but the first story I ever posted to BCTS, Two Roads finally hit 1000 reads/hits today. The story was posted on December 4, 2005, back before voting was even a concept.

In part this milestone was the result of a surge of hits that came about yesterday from Joannebarbarella's blog about old stories, which led to a record breaking 22 hits in the past two days. Thanks Joanne!

So, since I can't set off some fireworks here in my homestate, consider this blog to be my celebration of that milestone.

Hugs to all --- now back to your regular programming... ;)

I Felt Awful

joannebarbarella's picture

The other day I had a little preen about one of my stories, and Kristy logged a comment which led me to go and look for "Two Roads".

I found an absolute gem of a story, touching, poignant and, oh, so human.

It also hit me right where I live, because, in many ways, I could be the protagonist.

Then I looked at the number of hits the story had received and I was horrified; at that time less than 1000. Yet I felt it was better than the one I had just finished bragging about.

Of course it had no magic transition of a male character into a gorgeous, girly, giggly,16-year-old, or a male being forced to become female through accident or circumstance, just a heartwarming look at a life of choices made with both eyes open.

However, let me stop being cynical.

Kristy, It's lovely, and deserves so much better,

Congratulations,

Joanne

Joanne - no reason to feel bad

Joanne,

Absolutely no reason to feel bad. Comparing hit counts of stories is a effort in futility, there are so many reasons why things get hits versus not.

I'm just tickled that this story has gotten some attention again after all this time, and that is clearly a direct result of your blog.

I am delighted that you enjoyed it,

Hugs,

Kristy

I can understand that. You just never know when a story will appeal to people or not. More often than not the stories I really enjoyed writing does just so-so while one I jotted off in a hurry rakes in more. Big hugs! These things are our babies and when they do well, darn it!, it feels good.

More Hugs!

I too have seen recent hits on stories that have not been read for a while. I like the new surge and thank Joannebarbarella for her blog

I very often

read a story, having seen a positive comment. If I enjoy the story, I then try to see what other work that author has contributed.

I'm still amazed that people, in such large numbers, read my stories, a couple of which have attracted a lot of comments, mainly positive, or have generated discussion on an issue.

Given that BCTS is a great place to read and discuss TG fiction, should we be surprised at this?

My writing has been challenged to improve by the efforts of the wonderful authors and editors who give their time and efforts here without charge.

Also let us not forget the dedicated team of dear friends who keep this site going.

And I loved the fireworks!
