Just read an article by Tom Blackwell, (National Post  · Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010) about new guidelines for dealing with transsexual military personnel. Good article, and the closing comment by Cpl. Murray is perfect. "There shouldn't be any issue at all. We're just regular people doing a regular job, the same job as everybody else."

"As U.S. politicians continue to debate whether to let gays serve openly in the American military, the Canadian Forces have issued a new policy detailing how the organization should accommodate transsexual and transvestite troops specifically. Soldiers, sailors and air force personnel who change their sex or sexual identity have a right to privacy and respect around that decision, but must conform to the dress code of their "target" gender, says the supplementary chapter of a military administration manual."

(BTW, be sure to read Topsy's Sudan post too. Just for comparison...)

If anyone is interested...

If anyone's interested... The DADT debate in the US is not related to trans people at all. Repeal of DADT only benefits LGB service members. Trans service members, if outed, are either "kicked" out (if enlisted) or Court Martialed (for conduct unbecoming) & kicked out if officers. Nothing in the law benefits us either way.

That said, since trans service members are NOT covered by DADT, the President COULD allow trans service members to serve without recourse to congress... I'd LOVE to see THAT can of worms opened. LOL

I would sign up ...

I would sign up right away, if i thought they would take a 44 year old, 300 lb fat woman in a man's body..

But do they have a cute uniform?

American work and dress uniforms with rare exception look like crap anymore. If only I was younger I'd consider enlisting in the Canadian military.

But it's the military

they play with guns and things and you get all dirty, and they have people shouting at you - I know I've seen Private Benjamin.
