What an incrdible Olympics it has been. Well done to our neighbours in the UK for putting on such an event of that scale! Plus you had Russell Brand singing I Am The Walrus and Imagine by a huge choir, need i say more? It was all amazing and i'm gonna miss not having something to watch every day! Go on Katie Taylor!

Haha. I can't imagine. I actually missed the female weight lifting. I don't think any Irish were in it? Oh well. But Usain Bolt...sweet mother of mercy can he run!!

Not me!

Just been wishing it was already over! One good thing came of it, I discovered "Secret Millionaire" on ABC. Now that's a great show!

After the Opening Ceremony they would have struggled to match that style of spectacle (I cried during Abide with Me), so I thought they absolutely nailed the Closing Ceremony by just making it a fun evening with great music and dance. Jessie J and Queen was an inspired combo during the Closing Ceremony and the Kaiser Chiefs' Who rendition was fun. I felt a bit sorry for Rio's artistic number by having to compete with the likes of Eric Idle!

Actually, the whole Games has just been fantastic and the atmosphere at the Olympic Park was amazing when I went during the week. I think I've spent more time during the last 2 weeks talking sports with other women than I have in the last decade! Hopefully the Paralympics will be just as good and give me another chance to shout "C'mon GB!" at the tv. While I have some doubts about boxing, I thought Katie did brilliantly for Ireland (and so did Nicola Adams for GB) and hopefully it's the end of the gold drought for you!

I'm sure my natural cynicism will eventually return but for now I'm really feeling positive about my countrymen and women and the world and things in general. :-)

I would have enjoyed ...

... if they attempted to do the opening ceremonies in reverse for the closing ceremonies. *grin* I enjoy symmetry .. .and palindromes.

*hugs*

But if they'd done that...

... if they'd done that, when Sir Paul sang his song backward, we'd clearly hear the "I buried Paul," and the game would be up.

I may be in the minority, but

I may be in the minority, but I am delighted the silly thing is over. Entirely too long, and boring. I tried to at least watch the gymnastics, but that was boring too. The diving was pretty neat, what I saw of it. I always either turned to it as it was nearly over, or was parts I had already seen being rerun.

Sadly though, NBC can now get back to "reality shows".

Closing was OK

The closing was OK, I just need a bigger computer monitor, but I'm glad it's over. Doesn't seem that any of the conspiracies happened (no alien landings/take overs, no terrorists, etc). What I watched was all on-line via BBC. It's been pointed out many times that the we (The US) were the only country without live feed and NBC tried their best to shutdown feeds from other countries.

NBC issued a BS statement: "It was never our intent to live stream the Opening Ceremony or Closing Ceremony. They are complex entertainment spectacles that do not translate well online because they require context, which our award-winning production team will provide for the large prime-time audiences that gather together to watch them.” In other words, they called everyone in the US stupid.

It's so sad the Olympics have become so commercialized and have become less about the athletes. It's gotten so bad I almost expect something like the Saturday Night Live guys (Jason Sudeikis' Pete Twinkle and Will Forte's Greg Stink) as sports commentators talking about feminine hygiene products.

From what I have read on other sites, NBC butchered the Opening to fit in commercials and the Talent on site were making asinine comments.

To top it all off, the Government has the gall to tax the athletes on their medals and winnings.

Loved the Life of Brian part with Eric Idle

And I thought the ceremony was pretty good with the exception NBC didn't show one of my favorite artists, Darcey Bussell, and the idiot move of interrupting coverage to preview a fall show. Real classy move. Wished I'd watched it live online.

went to bed

sorry recycled 'legends of rock' has nothing on watching Mo Farah beat the Kenyans, or Rudisha in the 800, or the chinese diver, or the control of the gymnasts, or watching a horse dancing (how do they do that). Just so much excellence for two weeks.
hope it inspires some to get out there and push themselves.
