Life is stomping all over me this summer(with alpine spikes). Since the death of my Mom in the spring I have tried to set things right and move on with life. That has been delayed due to the pettiness of some Medicaid cretins. they determined in with their rules and procedures to only give Mom partial coverage so that the creditors were left with unpaid sums of money which they feel is due them, probably rightly so, but they have begun court proceedings to get the money from me.
Like I can get them paid to the tune of 75K. I'd like to think that they don't think about the misery they are spreading, but lawyers are a heartless bunch of low-life vultures who see only the dollar signs and not the people that they effect.

My Brothers and Sisters have retreated to the shadows to avoid the spray of mud that is being flung with reckless abandon by many agencies and entities that are trying now to collect monies due them in the only way that they can, lawsuits.

I being the principle target of these seemingly limitless down pouring of legal papers, and dreary drafts of lawyers. I'm not sorry if a few of you reading this are indeed lawyers. I feel no pity for you. I'd like to say some very nasty things about that profession, but I will not stoop that low.

I thought I would be over this pain, loss, heartache and discontent by this time, but circumstances have not turned out to be so rosy. I will probably have to endure this for some time to come and that really brings me down. I was hoping to turn my life around and actually begin living for me, alas that seeking of life will have to be put on hold.

Victoria, my muse has deserted me for better climes and softer living, I so much wanted to continue my seafaring tale, and adventure. That also has been put on hold for the foreseeable future at least. Depression hurts and clubs creativity to the curb. There just doesn't appear to be any point to try to create something worthwhile when there is a 800 pound gorilla on your back trying to collect something that I don't have even the remotest possibility of acquiring.

I know many of you have had tough times both personally and financially, and I wonder almost constantly how people go on doing what they have to do with that very heavy burden. I don't have the answers, I'll count myself very lucky indeed to get out of this with even a place to live.

Well I've ranted and cried now for a few paragraphs and if you have gotten this far, and not quit reading and gone on to lighter fare, then I'll leave you with this...

"Don't let the bastards bring you down !!!"

Tender hugs to all you kind people

Ta for now

I sympathize with you

I know how you feel. The worse part is the attorneys are FEDS if they're involved with Medicare. They're like the IRS, when they're wrong, they're right and can give you grief you can't believe. Why would they come after you? Are you resonsible for your mother's debts? Good luck, you're going to need it, Arecee

Bankruptcy

Screw the creditors by doing a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Did you sign the you would be responsible for MOMS bills? if not tell them to collect them from her also they should be shared by siblings

I'm really sorry

You poor thing. About these unspeakable lawyers - may I seriously suggest you emigrate, and dont let them know where to.

We dont have this kind of trouble in the UK, and parts of it are quite lovely to live in - neither too hot nor to cold, and our society is still more supportive of folks who have differences, in comparison to some others.

The things about lawyers trying to get money off people - if you dont have it for them to get, then they soon give up because they are just running up costs and this they do not like. It is not hard to get things arranged so that at least it looks like you have nothing to try to take from you. More details if required in a more private way.

When the piranhas choose to, they will go after your siblings as well.

I'll go ahead and toss in my

I'll go ahead and toss in my ha'penny's worth.

Most of the time, unless you _have_ agreed to shoulder the financial burden, or the relative in question has been declared your dependent (which assumes the former), they don't have a leg to stand on. Find the paperwork, and see how much is your signature for you, and how much is for her.

Tell them straight out that their only claims are against her estate, and that your monies are not her estate. Then, tell them to cease and desist in calling and harrassing you. If you have an attorney, you can insist that they only contact the attorney, otherwise, they are limited to mail. If you get certified mail, check the address before signing for it.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I'm afraid Danielle ...

that your circumstances stand as proof positive that The USA is NOT the greatest country in the world when a dying person is charged for medical care and the government comes after the survivors.

Apart from death duties applied to an estate for the Department of Inland revenue, a person's debts die with them in the UK. Monies can only be claimed against the dead individual's estate and NOT against the estates of relatives. Even the surviving spouse (if any) is protected as far as the family home and essential living costs are concerned in addition to half the estate if the estate goes to probate.

One reason I choose not to live in the USA, (and I have residency rights granted from many years ago,) is because of the obscene circumstances surrounding medical and hospital costs and charges when an idividual falls ill.

Live over there? Thanks but no thanks.

I don't think anyone but

I don't think anyone but politicians ever claim the US as the greatest nation on earth. In fact, there's a very large number of us who are quite completely disenfranchised by our "nation" and find it rather hard to be very enthusiastically patriotic.
