well, one of the Provincial Supreme courts here did something almost unheard of - it more than doubled the sentence handed down for Graham James, the hockey coach who was found guilty of molesting NHL player Theo Fluery, among others. Instead of the 2 year sentence he was given by the judge, he will now serve 5 years, unless the Canadian Supreme court changes it. Its not as good as the sentence I would have given him - to hang suspended by a hook in his member for the remainder of his life, but I guess it will have to do ...

Well...

...considering that the rate of recidivism for sexual abuse of children is almost astronomical, if he endures his sentence, I have no doubt he'll have his sights set as soon as he's released. Grrrrr.

I used to be a youth group advisor,

And I resigned because I am transitioning. It pisses me off, but it is for the good of the organization.

So I have no patience for these types. I am really glad to hear it. The damage they do continues, and the damaged kids grow up to be damaged adults, and many repeat. It is almost viral in nature. My heart goes out to any kid that has gone through this, grown up or not. Better the perpetrators be castrated, penis included, than to be allowed to continue these actions.

Punishment

well

in my opinion most in prison don't take well to those who molest and abuse anyone, it may be that he will have to grow eyes in the back of his head just not to get molested himself but you never can know these things

The problem is

as Dorthy has said, eventually they get out. We need to be more proactive about prevention.

I once heard a concept of voluntary Coventry, where people who feel they can not stop themselves from repeating go to safe areas, where kids are not allowed. It would have to be sponsored somehow, but in the long run it would be much more productive and cheaper than prison for these guys. They could even be allowed internet access, with proper net nanny controls. It would have to be voluntary though.
