Jumping the Shark in sequels

I revisited a couple of my stories the last couple of days, Switching Playing Fields and On the Flip Side.

Of the stories I've written, Switching Playing Fields (along with Max and Alex) is probably my favorite and (minus the typos and minor mental mistakes I'm still discovering) and best written. I love Flip Side, too, don't get me wrong. But I felt like I betrayed the charm of the original story when I inserted TG feelings into Lucas' character, rather than a boy comfortable in his own skin to find out he actually enjoyed walking in his female friends shoes.

I know it's been a while (most of you might have forgotten the characters), and I have limited time, but I am considering a sequel and exploring his romantic relationship with Beth, who relishes being the "boy" in their relationship, and with his sisterly bond with his BFF and mentor, Gina.

Just a thought, I guess. Feedback from those of you who followed the stories quite a while ago would be appreciated.

I love that story...

..and while I love Lucas and Beth, I just adore Gina; one of my favorite characters...ever.

Gina's Aunt 'Drea DiMaggio may make an appearance ...

in the sequel!

I'm considering having a cousin move in from her Italian family in Jersey to sort of take her spot on the field hockey team since she's moved on to the high school squad.

She's based on a real girl I totally adored in high school. Tough, athletic and super cool.

talk about timing

I JUST finished reading switching fields yesterday and was thinking that I wanted to see more of where the relationship with Beth was going.

Lucas is going to try water skiing now?

Sorry, couldn't resist that one. As OTFS left me wondering where things went with Beth & Lucas I'd love to see all the main characters return.

Go for it!

Go for it, Torey. I read Switching Playing Fields and On the Flip Side, and loved them both. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think you betrayed any of Lucas' character by inserting tg feelings, it just gives an added element to both Lucas and Beth. So go for it.
