Here I am, fairly late at night, had maybe one wine too many, tears streaming down my face as I listen to Phil Collins' "Another Day In Paradise", a song that I love, but it always makes me feel so guilty.

The destitute woman pleads for help and the man pretends he doesn't hear and ignores her. Which of us at some time hasn't done the same? Ignored that desperate plea for help because it was too embarrassing or inconvenient, or too much trouble.

Thanks, Phil, for reminding me that there are people out there who need help and that I CAN help. Even if the song was written for commercial purposes it stirs my conscience every time I hear it and I try to do the right thing.

Everybody should listen to this song and open our hearts just that little bit more,

Joanne

I know how you feel.

I've been there myself, and have actually gotten to the point that more often than not I don't turn the radio on in my car anymore. Not that I don't agree with your sentiments, as I completely do, but I can't afford to break down and cry while I'm driving and that's usually what happens lately.

It's amazing the power that music has to make us feel things and to make us think about ourselves and others differently.

I have also found my taste in music changing somewhat over the past year since I have allowed myself to be me - not in public yet, but at least in private and inside my own head I now admit the truth. It took a long time to get there, and it has had a profound impact on how I view the world.

Keep singing, and I'll be right there with you.

A powerful song

Hello
I also believe it is a song that makes you think about how lucky we are. Perhaps I could suggest two more, if anyone is brave enough to listen without shedding tears. The first is Streets of London by Ralph Mctell,

And if you are really brave, try this one from Chris Rea; tell me there’s a heaven

I cannot listen to the last one without feeling a chill.
The power of music can be quite overwhelming, so please take care

Both lovely songs and worth a tear or two.On a par with the one I quoted; I just wasn't listening to them at the time I posted. Just as well....I would never have seen the keyboard,

For Absent Friends

Here's one of Phil's earliest efforts. It comes from the Genesis album 'Nursery Cryme', released in 1971 when Peter Gabriel was still the band's lead vocalist.

It's amazing to think that he was scarcely out of his teens when he wrote these lyrics.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Yes, indeed. IN Deed!

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

I'll find my way
Through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven

Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please
Beyond the door
There's peace, I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
